Ahh! You are all pansies if a little bit of controversy over stat-files makes you quite playing this most excellent game.
What is all the hullaballoo about anyway?
v1.01, 1.02, and I'm sure 1.03 all have enough challeging tactical opportunities to please everyone.
IF YOU DONT LIKE THE BALANCE OF A GIVEN STAT SET, THEN MAKE UNIT LIMIT RULES FOR YOUR GAME. OR DONT PLAY W/ THAT STAT SET.
Play what you want to play, play what you are used to-- just play for godsake!
And if this little issue shakes your mettle, then fine...this community is better off without you.
I will be playing 1.02 until STW gets supplanted by MTW. I will always have a 1.02 game up...no offense to the creators/testers of 1.03, but I think 1.02 is balanced just fine. I play w/ 2 musks in autumn on a flat map and win routinely vs. 4 guns.
I dont see what all the pansy-rific WHINING is about.

Ditto!
I agree, if you can't do the time , don't do the crime. So either don't play it, or you can temper with it yourself.
And don't force everybody to play it - it is called unofficial for a reason.

I am the law and you can't beat the law.
Pressure to play 1.03 is natural I think. Most of the best and most influential players in the community use V1.03 so it is natural that heavy pressure to use it is omnipresent.

Sooooo true, Dionysos, sooo true, hehe
I will continue to play 1.02 because i am a lazy man. 1.02 fits my needs and wants well enough, although i must admit that there is always something to improve...
If people like to create their own private mods, well, thats fine for me!
Hmmm, on the other hand there may lie a small danger in the fact, that the already tiny community gets splitted up even more. Some guys mentioned that already...
But maybe thats a sign of the times?
We loose our ability to create societies, to build social groups designed to survive for a longer time and as a substitute we gain flexibility and speed?
What do we need speed for? Is speed a goal for human ambition on its own? Can it be?
Or is it only a tool for the "free" human brain? Do we need endurance and continuity as well in order to keep some balance?
What is "freedom"?
Is freedom the will to self-responsibility?
If the speed is too high for our - human - capability to cope with it, are we not in danger to loose our "freedom"?
...
hehe enough of my rubbish-talk.
Lets play SHOGUN, guys!!!
No matter what you prefer, 1.02 or 1.03!
It would be nice though when both groups meet occasionally on the same ground...

Jemasze is right once again.
On personal title i want to add something to his point...
The community we have now is too smal and not wargaming-mature enough to face mods, tools, campaigns and stuff.
As a proof for this we have seen countless things.... from the wolves
a downloadable campaign (general comment: to complex)
a downloadable campaigntool for playing linked battles with your own friends
a Questing Contest to test your skill, also playable with your own friends. Just 10 or so have participated.
an online campaign, enthousiasm at start is ok but long term involvement is low, just like the unnumerous dickheads trying to stall new things
and so on....
imo if we didnt pulled on teh sleeves of CA after MI for releasing a patch the online foyer would be empty now....

A big part of the "participation" problem is the low # of players, definately. And that is further compounded by the fact that many players live on opposite sides of the globe.
I was really excited to try your Questing competition, but I have only been on at the same time as KocMoc maybe, once or twice-- same goes for Macajor. Eventually, I gave up because I never see those guys online-- our time-zones are just too conflicted for us to really meet up.
Then you have the language barrier...there are a good number of Elites and Celtiberos
that don't speak English, and I think that they felt left out of the message boards and community in general. Not anyones fault, but again, it comes down to #'s. And you really gotta feel for that one Russian dude who has STW and cant even talk to anyone.
lol
Anyway, if MTW has a bigger following (as we all hope), we wont have to endure these diminishing returns again.
until then, VIVA STW!
