A Roman general used flaming pigs at least once. Probably it happened in few more battles, but I don't remember. If you don't like the pigs, screaming women or elephants, then just d o n o t use them. Can't be more simple.

I actually have no particular problem with the odd units.
A general lack of knowledge of the time period probably helps there...

However, "just don't use them" is an obviously false solution because the computer still will.

People told me that when I asked if there was a way of turning off Geishas etc from the Warlord Edition of Shogun to play like plain Shogun & they were just as wrong then.

Errm, Geishas were in Original Shogun, they were not added in Warlord Edition/Mongol Invasion.

anyway you could always mod out units you don't like.
