Well, I played medmod vanilla mtw for a good amount of time and got quite familiar to the usual battlefiled tactics. I can even use Jav units:P
However, one thing that ticks me up is the Golden Horde.
Defending agaisnt this guys is not that hard, place your Halbs in a big dark wood, lure the Goldies in and have a nice day. Alternativly you can shot them into very small pieces, shoot them some more, send a lot of spears in a sucice mission on their Cav while your Cav gets their archers or employ a myriad of other nice tricks.
The problem is, what if you have to come to them?
The first problem is: GH has a lot of shooting.
As they tend to be on some kind of hill it tends to be difficult to outshoot them.
If you have enough to outshoot them (which is roughly one uinit of infantry archers vs one unit of GH horse archers) you might be in deep trouble if they acutally charge you.
Of course, GH horse archers are rather weeny in close combat, once ýour mellee gets them they get reduced into neat little pieces of pony flesh. The thing is, your guys are usually somewhere on the map hunting some horse achers, killing them and guess what, their reeinfocements appear.
This is my main problem. I usually have have exhausted and kinda depleted Halbs near the entrance point of fresh GH heavy Cav. The get shot by arrows and so on while trying to get a defensive posistion, while they arent supported by my Cavalry (chasing horse archers) or my Arbs( tend to run out of ammo in this very moment).
Does anyone have better hints for how to take on the hordes?

Hei Mightypeon

Have noticed that rather annoying insuficciency of units when attacking the GH, here's what I do...

I play somewhat similar to you, cav to chase routers, missile unit to wear down GH cav archers and halbs or pikes to smash their HC, but always keep 3 units on the field as reserve (usualy 1 Cav, 1 Missile and 1 Pike/Halb) precisely to counter their reinforcements.

Also another word of advise...don't chase their Cav Archers too much, once your units begin to get tired, they will come back to shoot at you (if the AI rallies them) and you can always pick them off with your missile units.

Use the tired Cav and Pike/Halb/Spear (whatever) Units to come back and protect your missile units, so they'll be resting up while providing some protection to your most of the times melee diminished brethren...and maybe be of some use later when rested.
