tried the opening battle of the hundred years war a few times and cant seem to even come close.
if i commit edward to the fight i always lose him regardless if i throw him at peasants crossbowman or the flanks of enemy cavelry.
and when i dont my whole army seems to route anyway.
any tips would be apreceated http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Get your army together. Have Edward, the spears and longbows next to him move close to the rest of the army right away. Then, just fight it like any other battle. If you can, gang up on units (unless it exposes your own to being doubled). Pepper expensive units w/ your longbows, and the battle should be yours.

i always try to pull edward and those spears up right away..even fast march em but the first french cav unit always catches up to em..so its iether turn em and fight or let em get charged in the rear ..
guess ive had the right idea ...just must be doing something wrong.
thanks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

if this is the battle im thinking of, i usually split up into two parts, shooting w/ lb's then engaging w/ inf then finally charging the enemy flank with cav and filling any gaps with Longbows http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

In order to get Edward back, I tend to sacrifice that small unit of spearmen to hold up the French cavalry for just enough to set up a defensive line opposing them. I pretty much keep Ed out of the battle, and - because I'm on that nice big hill, shoot up anything I can before the French get in close for a charge down the hill into them.

Yes, I usually sacrifice the spears, close ranks on the hill along the line of the hedge with 2 longbows behind and shoot up anything that moves. The third longbow unit I use to keep the forces down by the windmill at bay; if they get too close to them I dispatch a unit from my line to deal with them. Just remember to shoot up anything that moves and hold the defensive line and you won't have too much trouble.

if i remember rightly you can get away with sacrificing peasants. then just pull back to that ridge and get some spears on the right to stop that cav and there you go.

I immediatly pull Edward and the spearmen to the main part of the army,i then counter the French unit pursuing Edward and make sure i crush them or make them rout. I then usually have enough time to group my army together and finish off the main French army easily.
