I'm playing MedMod as Spain. I had pushed the Almohads back into North Africa and they had only one territory left, Tunisia. Their army there was very large, however, being comprised of all their forces which had retreated from Grenada, Morocco and Algeria. My force is slighty outnumbered by the Almohads, but my troops are of better quality and led by an 8* heir. The Almohad King leads his army with 1* along with his 3 heirs. I attack, expecting a good battle due to the equality in troop levels and the fact that my men are heavily armored.

Instead of fighting me, the Almohads retreat. The only problem is they don't have any other provinces and cannot flee. I capture their entire army, including the Sultan and all three heirs. Since there is no one left to ransom him, heads go rolling and I defeat the Almohads in their last province without losing a single man. The army they surrendered had over 3000 men.

What exactly happened here?

umm, I think this was fixed in a patch so that the AI will fihgt if it's their last province no matter how desperate the odds they think it to be.

Thats not fixed in the 2.01 patch.

It might have something to do with the quality of troops. This always happens when the comp has gotten beaten up badly has low quality troops and your first 16 units will get tons of valour as you would have very little use of most of the reenforcements.

My only guess is this happens when the comp has calculated that the human player wo;nt have a significant amount of losses and would just make that army uber strong by fighting it, so in turn it just makes them dissapear.

I think it's a bug with Medmod, only seen it there in the later patches.

And we're talking 70.000 against 1000 and still no retreat in unmodded (or to be more specific, my own lightly modded) games. The comp simply don't normally retreat when he has no-where to run.

Good point but it may not be the medmod persay

Maybe it is because in medmod just about all factions actually have ships. It could be that the A.I. sees the sea zone an option for retreat due to bad programming. So it is not the Medmod that causes this but makes it more common.

Possibly, or so is it that he accidently stumbled accross the fix and changed it.
It has happen with the all artillery rebel bug hasn't it?

Have anyone seen it in a unmodded game (or lightly modded) with later patches?

the sea thing, that's interesting, might be what's happened to me in similar efforts, unsure on this though, last stand kinda stuff is always fun with either side, so better to not retreat...i'll have to try instigation more of these in play
