well, this are my thoughs for playing as swiss:
Start: Swiss and Tirloia are ok build up, you still need armourers workshop and armorers guild in swiss as well as the next militia level in Tirolia. However, your starting income is at -22 Florins.
I suggest: At the first turn, move all you have inot Burgundy.
Build some Trebs in Tirolia and added Swiss pikes in Swiss.
Nailing the Burgundy king gives you: Burgundy, which is richer than the rest of your empire combined, 10K flroin in cash for their King, and another kinda productive province.
Now, build up.
Once you ar strong enough (if your cahs is starting to run out again) get Milan and Venice.
From now on, you could theoretically turtly. However, the Genoese Confedarton are also easy pickings.
Now wait until the HRE gots carved up, and move in to get your share.
Voila: you got a ncie mini empire, Swiss troops, some italian Cav and the opputrunity for a lot of arse kicking.

@katank I think the guides concern 'vanilla' versions of the game but hey i'll ask froggy if you like, she's our favourite mod....

Step 2: The big wars
At some point of the game you usually have your nice empire (mine constied of Swiss, Burgundy, Tirloia, Venice Milan Tuscany provence Bavaria Swabia Austria and papal States). At this point three other major powers tend to emerge.
Usually the Golden Horde destroys the Russians and sacks parts of Poland and Hungary.
The Turks are propably somehwere in Bulgaria/Greece and form the second major power.
In addtion to this, one of the 4 Catholoic empires in the west (Aragon, Spain, England or France) will claim the majority of western europe.
The Danes arent exactly a major power but propably hold Franconia and the realms north of it.
I would advise to let the Danes live. The reason is simple, the western major power will want to expand, and if you control everything from Italy to Denemark your simply in their way.
So an attack on the Danes should be out. Lets look at the other options:
1: Go west young Man
Attacking the westward superpower is usually easiest if they are not English. France relies on Heavy Cav with infantry support, this combination tend to get a good spanking by Swiss Pikes. In addition, Swiss tends to get Kickass heir from the start, which the french dont, making the combat on land even more uneven.
However, there is one problem: The northern seas.
The Western Superpower will have a fair share of naval control in the med, while beeign quite dominant in the Northern Seas. Attacking provinces with a Coast to the Biscaya or the Channel is risky as the enemy could always come back.
If you go for this, take the Inland provinces and the Provinces bordering the Med first.
Try to maneuver their armies into Spain, from which they have difficulties to get out. Normandy, Bretagne and flandern should´be the very last provinces to take.
in this matchup, an Alliance with Denemark is great, their navy can usually delay enemy reeinforcements and signifcantly easen your own produrction.

2: Stop the Horde? Slay the Horde
The 2. possbile main enemy is the Golden horde.
Your biggest problem: Cathing their horse archers.
Your smallest problem, their heavy Cav.
Swiss troops are expensive, not that fast and not that armoured. Perfect targets for horse Archers.
Well, A: Bring mtd X-bow and Arbalests. If you cannot cath them, just shoot them up.
B: Hire Mercs, you need somehting fast
C: Use Autocalc, autocalc doesnt value horse archers correctly, and kinda overestimates Pikes.
Apart from that, there seems to be a hard coded aggression towards teh GH much like with the HRE.
It is unlikely that the Horde is gogin to team up.
You first objective is a push towards Lithunia Kiev.
Build a lot of Chiv Sgts. or pavisier to garrison, swiss units are simply to expensive for this.
Once you made you psuh to the Wolga, relax, rebuild, get reeinforcements.... Attacking the Horde on a Steppe is plain nasty.
Killing their Hiers may actually be the better option.
I have found out that it takes a lot of troops to Garrison, and Swiss troops are absurdly expensive.
Let the Horde live, rush against Kiev and get you some free stars.
Once you are there I would advocate for sacking Denemark. Denmarks presence simple risis more Boarders, they could backstab you and you have efficiently blocked the western empire anyway.
3: All your Gold are belong to us
The 3. Option is an invasion of the Southern Empire, propably Turks.
This is pretty easy, the AI tends to have few Jannisarys, And pikes maul their guys quite badly. Swiss troops dont have much armour which is a nice thing in the desert.
I would advocate for a push to Contatinploes, than gogin seaborne and getting Egypt.
From then, use targets of opputunity.

mate get Kiev, the GH AI loves Kiev So there your swiss lack of manouverability is negated. There your arbalesters can lay waste to those horse archers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

Good post I've played sofar one game as the swiss medmod, but I found it rather easy. Your troops are unbeatable; arbalests in combination with the swiss pikemen is very good. Horse archers can be easily beaten by hordes of arbalests (and a few halberds to guard them), anything else is no match for a single, long line of Swiss pikemen.

I support a sub-forum of the guides part, where the mods have their place. Medmod, Hellenic Mod, BKB Super mod, etc. are quite popular and deserve a section
