backing up MTW+VI?

hey this will probably sound like a stupid question,but how do you back up the game? i downloaded the NTW mod and it messed up the graphics of some of my MTW+VI units,i decided to reinstall the game to get the MTW game back,but when i did all of my save games and Historical Campaign progress has gone http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif BUT I REALLY WANT TO DOWNLOAD SOME MODS,BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO BACK MY ORIGINAL GAME UP Thanks

Install MTW twice in different folders. Put the mod in one of those.

I just zip it up and when I want to original game back I just delete the modded version and unzip.
