View Full Version : king dies, nation goes to ****
Has this happened to anyone? Its about 1145 in English, hard, medmod. Im doing great, about to own france ect ect then my King dies...No biggie, I thought, ill just move up his brother to take over that army and be done with it. Then, the following turn, 1 third of my nation decides to rebel...later another third goes.
Long story short, my old king was a Magnificent builder giving +2 loyalty to all generals...not so with the new guy. And naturally the danes invaded the rebels in whales, those rat bastards, and france did the same. I might be able to pull this game out of the crapper, but Ill have to rebuild everything...and all of my generals who are left are on the verge of turning anyways.

Yup, fairly common... actually it's not so much the +2 in the Magnificient builder but rather the +20% happiness that provokes that.
Churches and other happiness improving buildings (border forts and so on) will prevent these large effects.

Howdy Ragss, good to see another Canuck in the Org. Here is a link to another topic that might help you avoid loyalty problems in the future:

try to have your heirs visit the inauguration etc. and they can get builder virtues from that.
also, build happiness buildings like watch towers, border forts, town watch, church, tavern, etc. in every province once your king hits 60 or so.
the first two shoudl be in every province anyways.
pump some extra peasants and lower taxes a bit and you should have no problems at all.

one other thing to look out for is which of your provs has the most buildings - that's where your new ruler always appears. Say you just launched a naval invasion of Constantinople and captured it nearly intact with lots of buildings - more buildings than any other prov you have. Meanwhile, enemy boats have moved in and cut Constan off from the rest of your empire. Next turn, your old king dies and the new one will spawn in Constan - effectively cutting him off from your empire which always leads to massive rebellions. So, your empire could have been hit by 1) new ruler with lower influence and less +loyalty/+happy virtues and 2) your ruler is cut-off from his empire, tacking on even lower loyalty and lower happiness. Recipe for disaster.

I find the sons of Egptian Sultans to be a pack of lagely disaffected mongrels who are hard to control.
Have to spend a lot of time shuffling them about the empire.
so keeping 3 or 4 loyalty generals busy will boost their loyalty?
yes. Succes on the battlefield means trust in leadership. Plus, your influence grows, so your general's loyalty grows also.

The Italians are worse than any Egyptian you can imagine.
Italians aren't bad.
rushing the Sicilians and taking Naples will give early victories as is creating a colony in Serbia.
once the fast starting navy reaches the holy lands, it's time for crusades galore.
hospitaller foot kngihts are awesome can openers.
just try it
soon, the rich trade of the holy lands is in your hands and your influence is through the roof and heirs become quite good
I haven't tried this, but it should work. Move the heir presuptive around to areas that will complete their buildings the next turn. He should get builder/steward for being in the region as it produces the building.

I've tried it and managed to get trader and steward as well as builder virtues on some heirs.
too bad they became rather poor generals though as I didn't train them up.
the result is satisfying although the microing involved is horrendous.
I'm currently playing a Viking campaign. My king had a 5 influence and all the good generals I had had around 3-4 loyalty at the time. I conquer territories, he gets to 9 influence and magnificent builder. Those good generals all had 9 loyalty at this point. He dies, heir appears who has an influence of 4. My generals loyalty mostly went back down to 4, some lower. Good thing I got great builder after a few years to boost everybody's loyalty up by one.
I thik the + to loyalty is just as important, maybe even more important than the + to happiness. If you have an 8-9 influence king and his heir takes the throne, you'll have a 4 point drop in influence, which will drop your generals' loyalty. The absence of the magnificent builder V&V on the heir could well result in civil war.
that's why I think the hideous microing is worth it.
I think traveling across the map routinely will also give educated more likely so try to attend far away inaugurations.
