Hurray More incentive to include female warriors in the game Go Xena, go Gabriella, watch it girls, you lost your skirts http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Err... ok, ok, this is a fantastic development. We'll be able to remove stupid pharaonic hats from Egyptian archers, the horns from the bull warrior (horns? cornutus iberiensis? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) and similar nonsense.

now, if we remove the dogs, pigs, cats and other pets from the army roster, this might actually be less grewsome than anticipated a game, no? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Another indication that the slogan "make love, not war" is an ancient invention and was the motto of every soldier's woman from the dawn of history http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There is a thread on this on TWC right now. I don't think the unit dresser will effect the Campgien or the Custom Battles, you can only make units for specific Historical Battles and Campgiens in their oppropriate editors. Still, I can't wait Jaavilen men on Elephants, and don't get me started with some LOTR battles I want to recreate (Battle of Daglord plain for one http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif ) I believe that we will be able to use existing parts from RTW units (Helmut, Head, Weapon, Body, Legs, Arms) And miz and match them in a new unit.

With CA's incorrections it should be compulsory to have a Full Game Editor (units, stats, strat map, battle map, etc...)... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

I've made a poll to discuss this a couple of months ago. I'll try to get the link for you...

Units are made out of polygons on which a texture is put. This texture covers the unit from toe to top, it is not made from parts. So I am 99% sure that the game doesn't let you decide on which helmet or underwear you want your new to have.
What you probably are able to do is to select a homemade texture (which are just plain flat graphics) which will then be applied on the polygons.
I can only hope that the unit dresser also lets us change the polygons otherwise we will still be severly limited in creating new units, perhaps even more then with M:TW.

If you want to understand this better and perhaps train yourself in texturing then you can look up skinning (textures are called skins in FPS) tutorials for First Person Shooters, such as Quake, or Unreal Tournament.

Cheers, Duke John

Well I doubt that the Unit Dresser will be a 3D Modelling Application or a Texturedrawingtool.
I guess that its more of a gimmic to let you combine different unitpieces into a selfmade new unit.
And then maybe choose from a couple predefined textures. (in one RTW movie I saw a unit changing textures from a naked upper body to an armored one (probably displaying armor rating)

Actualy in most 3d games units are constructed out of different body parts.
The Unit Dresser might be something like the armor creator used in the Neverwinternights Toolset.
There you could "dress up" a character with different body bits and later export the whole as one armor.

The 3D moddeling and texturing should an hopefully will be done in the standard applications (like 3dsMax, Lightwave, Gmax).
What CA should provide for however is a good support for conversion and import of models into the game.

Keep in mind that features like the Unit Dresser are aimed at the casual player, the modding side of things will be quite another matter.

Sorry I cant find the movie with the armor display anymore (I thought it was one of the interviews but no luck there)
I am almost certain I saw this:
A unit with a greek hoplite helmet standing with an naked upper body close up.
Then the same unit (the same helmet) with what appeard to be leather upper body armor.
I certainly hope that I wasnt hallucinating http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
Maybe it wasnt even a movie but just two pictures.
