View Full Version : Hello

hello everyone, i'm just a new member to these forums introducing myself.
i hope intro threads are OK, i didn't see mention of it in the stickied FAQ for new members.
anyway, i'm relatively new to the TW series. i never played STW, but bought MTW + VI about 4 months ago and really liked some parts of the game (tactical depth, overall style and aesthetics), and was really disappointed by other parts (lack of strategic depth, diplomacty, etc.). but overall i find it to be a very interesting and compelling game.
naturally i've become interested in RTW. my hopes/concerns/observations about RTW is generally my reason for joining this forum and what i'll most likely post about. also, i've recently joined two other TW forums (again, generally for their RTW discussions). i checked out these .org forums and was surprised by the higher (IMO) level of discussion here. maybe it has to do with the limiting of new members to Junior Patron status http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ? (i hope that doesn't sound condescending or like i'm kissing *ss http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif ).
anyway, that's me, i hope i have time to contribute. thanks all.

There's a new members thread stickied at the top of the page, callled New? please read this first - just read the first 2 posts, the mods edit any new info into them, so you don't need to read the wole hread http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

right, thanks Axeknight. i actually read the first page of that thread before posting. what i meant to say was that i could tell from that thread whether intro threads were considered 'poor form' for what ever reason. it appears that they are not http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.
anyway, thanks again http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif
you have pretty elaborate nightmares, btw.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-stunned.gif

ah right.. allusions and whatnot.. cool.
um, quick question.. how does one edit one's post? i wanted to change i could tell to i could not tell in my previous post. but i can't, for the love of mike, find the edit button http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
To further upset poor new members, they are forbidden from the edit button. *evil laugh* http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Welcome to the ORG I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. I think you get a nice, pretty, shiny edit button once you reach member rank. You seem like a nice chap so you won't have any trouble there. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
So, yeah: welcome http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Welcome to the Org, Lil' Timmy Always good to get reinforcements http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
First of all, the New? Please read this first (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=5047) thread should provide answers to most of your questions, but if you there are any left unanswered, feel free to post away You get the ability to edit your posts very soon, though I cannot recall whether you need the Senior Patron or Member status; be as it is, if you stick around, in a week or two you should be a full member; then the true agony starts

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Welcome to The Org timmy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
Intro posts are certainly not considered to be poor form.
When you have posted responsibly a few times you will get reclassified as a Senior Patron, then your options (like edit) start to increase. For example, right now you can only reply to threads, not start them, in certain areas.
I too find the AI diplomacy and other aspects a little thin, as you said. Overall this is the best game I have ever found, and I particularly like the battles. Right now I am really focusing on the online multiplayer aspect.
Hope to see you around

@ichi: yeah, i haven't really played with the MP much.. i like fighting my battles and everything, but my real joy lies in empire building and such types of things (which is why i find MTW so frustration at times http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif)

You will probably find this site a great resource. Most questions will get answered and never fear to use the Search function.
