Hi everyone http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I've been playing MTW: VI for a while now and have a quick and simple question on building completion.

At the end of each turn I get a summary of buildings completed. I thought this was pointless as unless you wrote them down you had to go round every province checking anyway. Now I've just seen a thread over at ezboard that barely hinted that you can just check the ones on the summary. Anyone know how you do that?

It would save me so much time and mouse clicking http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Hmmm. I don't know. If you have it set on a list instead of that series of pictures, try clicking on that.

Cheers Doug-Thompson http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I always use the summarised list and in the early days I thought I'd tried clicking on it. A few people have checked the thread with no response, will have to test it myself but not in till 10.30pm http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Once I get a thought about MTW: VI in my head I just want to get home and try it out IMMEDIATELY http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-furious3.gif

I must seek help, does anyone know if their is self help groups for MTW Anonymous http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

Huh That would be really nice, Yak (I also REALLY wish there was a way to see the v&v summary again, on the strat map.)

I just tried an obvious possibility - clicking on the next province arrows in the Build popup, while holding down alt, shift, or control. But, it didn't help.

If nobody knows or can figure it out, can you PLEASE go back to ezboard and find that post, and ask them directly? Pretty please?? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-computer.gif

Eh? You can click the entries to have the view centered on the province. I don't know of any way to bring it up again after the turn has finished though.

Sorry everyone but I may have read to much into the post on ezboard. What does everyone do with their build and V&V summaries at the end of each turn? It seems long winded to write them all down and is hard to remember (thus pointless) after more than half a dozen. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Alas... well, here's a very few things I do, to lessen the load...

I'm sure everybody knows about the arrows on the Build popup (next to the province name). This makes it relatively easy to zoom through them all. Past that, if I get really bored once I have a lot of provinces, I will only check the Build queues on even-numbered years. (Or odd... whatever; as long as it's consistent.) Except for newly-captured provinces, where I hand-fix the watch towers and forts. Otherwise, everything takes a multiple of two years, so if you sacrifice one turn from a queue (on average, half of them lose a turn), you only have to check them half as much, and nothing more is lost.

As for v&vs, for one thing, I only worry about acumen or command increases in non-Lords, and acumen decreases (or -10% to farm or trade) or any command change, for Lords. Past that, once I get a ton of people, I will only check +2 (or better) acumen for non-Lords, -2 (or worse, also must be at least -15% farm/trade) for Lords, or any command changes. I believe that a number of the v&vs follow a path (e.g., Eloquent then Most Eloquent... here (http://www.freewebs.com/totalwar85/)'s a partial list of v&vs), which is to say that most dumb guys are going to need a lot of help to rise above the crowd, so not as much is lost if you only check higher gains.

I personally fill up the queues and only check build queues every five years or so as that's the least time it takes to get through all of it.

Keeping track of buidling completions can be tedious - when that new upgrade comes in I want to look at the next option in the buidling queue, maybe even revisit the unit training queue to switch switch to a newly available type. Just takes focus.

The V&V list in VI is 'clickable'. I click on the guys with fresh V&Vs that I am very interested in - usually the nasty economic or command vices - and the screen will center on him. Seems like I can remember 3 or 4 guys and their locations each turn. If its more than that it probably means it is time to systematically go thru all my Guvs and high-star Gens.

I go with Katank on this one, and only check every five years or so. Its going to be slightly less than 100% efficient but it hasn't made any real world (?virtual world?) difference yet. Empire management isn't the best bit of MTW IMHO.

Once I've got a few provinces geared up for swords, spears, cav, archers, ships and agents and I'm churning out the units I usually don't bother with upgrading any other provinces, except for income. That gives me a bit less to check anyway.

yep, going for only one unit line in a province is probably best.

if I can't figure out what to do with a province, I usually just build economy or level up the castle.

Ah, the trials of managing an empire. I usually check it evry turn, but it depends on what you're building. Especially, as previously noted, newly captured provinces need to be watched over. Later, for many provinces as you are building only higher level structures, it takes a while, so you don't need to check every year (some of those projects take from 6-20 years).

Also, sometimes you need to put things in the queue (or take them out) depending on your war cash flow. Often after battles, the loss of some soldiers often helps cash flow (no longer need to support the dead), but too many new buildings coming on-line at the same time will suck cash out quick. This is more likely to happen in campaigns where you are attacked often and can not maintain trading income. In my current campaign (BYZ, early, expert, around 1272), I have almost no trading partners as almost everyone of importance is at war with me. So I must carefully manage building income producing buildings (farms or mines, trade buildings will be very negligible for income at this point)with buildings that will increase happiness and military aspects. Of course too, the number of units (spies, priests, ships, military) must be carefully controlled as well, for both support costs (spies and priests are free)and initial building costs. As long as some deaths are forthcoming (hopefully with successful war campaign booty), than the economic equation will hold up. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/medievalcheers.gif
