HI

Game details: Medmod, VI, Normal, GA, Early, , Almo

I've been raiding Valencia from Cordoba, in an effort to whittle down the mighty BYZ army that has arrived in Spain. (For those who aren't sure, it's a two bridge river province.) My policy has been to attack 1 bridge, and then to send all my Cav down to the other, which is about half a mile or more from the first with Jinette (mercs), Sah Cav, and Germanic knights. And roll up the Byz flank, much routing and killing to follow.

I've done this twice, and each time pullled out as I haven't the strength to hold it along with Cordoba.(We're nearly at the point of this post, so stick with me).
On my third attack, I lined up, and gasp, the two bridges were not far off being side by side. IMHO they were not much over an ARB range apart.

It was a real slog to win this one, he had plenty of spear and a few misssle units, but I managed to break through.

Anyone else experienced moving bridges?

cheers

Not that I've noticed, but I've never employed the strategy you describe (the tactics now, yeah, been there my friend). I thought however that there is no single battlefield per province system, and that the game uses the description of the province (plains, coastal etc.) to randmly select an appropriate province. Correct me if I am wrong.

Whoops... My last mention of the word 'province' should read 'battlefield'

@ NoTalent,

the battlefields change every time you fight in the province. If you defend or attack the same province over and over again you can't be sure to play the same map.
This happened to me when I defended Tuscany against the Pope. Two times I had the same map where I could camp on a hill and destroy his army with a few spear units + a lot of Genoese Archers. The third time I again brought this units only to be caught in open terrain. The pope won this time. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

So, don't rely on the map design.

Thanks guys, in retrospect it's a cool feature, which will keep me on my toes. Though I'm still getting over the shock....

yep, only certain features will be the same such as the existence of a bridge but hills etc. can change.

so can the AI unit behavior as sometimes the units will move in stupid ways that grants a victory with 0 casualties but other times be heavy casualties.

I had this work against me several times when I won a stunning victory only to have the computer lock up and when I play again, it's not so great any more not to mention a waste of time
