Great pics.
Why can't we all get a general like that british one http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif
Does it actually make generals better to keep them with the king/sultan ?

Well, there is no "official" confirmation for that. It is my personal belief and it works most of the time. I stack my king with the "big guys" into a coastal province (so that they can reach everywhere in one turn) and that province becomes the imperial seat. WHen I assign a new governor, I take hime directly to the province where the king and other governors sit.
nobody liked my screenies?
They're really good cebei http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Shame about the need to autoresolve, but those battles can take ages anyway. Did you win on autoresolve?
Quote[/b] ]was the english fella an exheir?
I dont remember, but there should have been a crown icon to his right, if he was from a royal line, so I dont think he is.

Yes, about 12.000 loss in golden horde, about 9000 loss from my army. Still, I conquered ALL of Europe with my men in Khazar http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Actually, in my experience, if you keep generals in the same province as the sultan/king but not in the same stack they start to turn hedonists and/or lazy... :)

If I saw those guys coming I would scream I have never come across stats that high yet (thank goodness). I would not, however, mind having some of my Generals having abilities like those. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You can try putting a high dread prince into other stacks.. I dunno, depends on a lot of things..
@ rockhammer, I think you'll see plenty of crazy high star generals when taking on the byz.
these generals are insane and are also jedi, meaning capable of singlehandedly defeating half your army and then escaping.
so annoying focus all missile fire on them and try to skirmish beforehand to wear them out for better results.

Nice screen shots:)
Very impressive generals too If those guys showed up on my doorstep I would introduce myself (and the army) as the new "Royal Gardeners" and take up tending flowers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
Nice screenies Thanks for sharing.
I always kept the governors in their home province unless they were required to be elsewhere in battle. I did build a capitol where the Sultan was and all the chancellery etc where, but I'll try the close to kind policy as well.

did you actually have an agent in all those provinces in that english screen?
Mind if I butt in and make a quick remark on agents in all provinces ?
Hope not. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Well I have almost exclusively played only Turks glorious achievement (in Single Player) and always sent one Alim in every single province on the map for two reasons:
1. Religious Conversion
2. Knowing what is in every province and who is conquering who. Watching the borders change.
In my Turkish home provinces (about 20) I have always had:
- 1 or preferably 2 Imams. Over time this can increase your zeal between 70-90%.
- 2 or 3 Alims.
- 3 Spies
- In 2 or 3 port provinces upto 5-6 assasins from Syria of rank 4-5. Ready to be dispatched on missions of assasination of enemy kinggs, religious agents, generals etc.
Hope that adds something and helps your game till you have another answer from our dear friend Ceb.

Wouldn't simply keeping up with all of the assasinations later on be a hellish and time consuming task?
I think a shuffling is required.
once you swap the agents between lands of different factions, they are shielded by border forts adn it's not so bad.
I tried for 1 Imam in every province instead.
I had 1 in every one of mine and then sent a pack of 20 Imams around who are capable of turning a province completely muslim in no time flat
I had imams in most of my provinces before I exploded out and couldnt keep up with myself anymore. And I had an alim in every of my provinces and then some, but before I exploded out I had maybe 5 agents wandering foreign lands. Now I know about that map cheat so its even less now.
I never saw much good in religious orientation, but I never used Jihads. None the less, I usually had imams sitting in provinces I was planning to invade.

Pre-VI multiple spies were effective. With VI (at least 2.01) only the highest valor spy has any effect. See Phatose's post (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=16202) about 1/3 of the way down.
When causing rebellions, it's still worth dragging along some low/no valor spies since every spy in the prov gains a "victory" when a rebellion occurs and you can quickly valor up a horde of spies in a rebellion prone prov.

Nope that shows the sheer number of the Queen's navy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif And check out my strange expansion..I own trebizond and constant too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-clown.gif

It still seems like a lot of micro-management. I'm not sure that knowing who's attacking whom is worth all of that extra effort.
it is worth the effort and the exact breakdown of units means better info on alliance structure as well as allowing for more opportunism in bribing civil war rebels etc.
I usually only have agents in inland provinces with my huge navy covering all coastal ones.
@Cebei, I don't find that expansion path strange at all.
I love taking Const. and Trebizond.
As the Brits, I took that fairly early too and actualyl ended up taking out the Russians, Huns, Danes, and Pope in that order.

yep, it seems so.
maybe they just never learn.
did you play it out? did they march quickly off the map or did they actually sit around to fight?
those gold varangians would certainly rip through them if melee starts or maybe arbs can just shoot em up.

Yeah, it was the remainder of a French crusade which was camping in Bohemia.
Some turns earlier I defeated the "big" crusade, and then their soldiers started deserting.
Until these guys decided that the moment was right to attempt to continue their march on Constantinople http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
I did autoresolve this one... It seemed a bit *too* easy, and I suppose they would've ran the field immediately anyway. The high-command general had also a very high dread level (9 iirc)...
But I had a good laugh. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-laugh.gif
if it had been one of my french crusades.
6000 men arrive with 3k being good.
how many times have a crushed the byzantines with just crusade followed by a crusade, by another crusade.
i only crusade as france.
as england im too busy crushing france.
thanks, dessa
really? crushing france should only take three turns.
by the time you are finished, you can start crusading.
yeah but in those three turns i get excommed
and germany and aragon and spain all take me on at once.
thanks, dessa
what?
I never got excommed in three turns.
first turn, Aquitaine hits Toulouse and Wessex hits Flanders.
Anjou to Normandy and Normandy supports into Flanders.
All units in Isles south to wessex.
wessex to Flanders, Flanders to Champagne.
collect thy warning.
next turn, hit Ile-de-France from all sides.
first major battle of the campaign and your ample archers should kill the French king in battle, no heirs, faction over.
never have to worry about excomm.

it most certainly is a matter of taste, but I agree with katank and Sinan: keeping an agent in each province is really nice, not only for the aforementioned obviously helpful uses (situation on the map, alliances and rebellions, all kinds of opportunities, etc), but also because I find it a lot of fun to see what goes on and how the various AI factions interact.
The AI almost never kills religious agents (even if you continuously kill theirs), so they are best for this purpose.
@Sinan: keeping govs in their home province.
I think that's a bad thing to do. I haven't fully tested this, but my admittedly limited experience, and also the impression that I think I read this somewhere, leads me to believe that they are more likely to get bad vices (greed-related) if they stay in their home province.
I usually keep them where they are when I find them in some garrison, since they are peasant units most of the time).
@Cebei: the lazy vices appear anyway in a general who's not constantly fighting, regardless of whether he's sitting in his own province or another one.
I have my govs do an occasional tour.
I have all my govs in a stack and shuffle them aroudn the map using my fleets.
they get less vices this way. vacation time seems to improve their sense of personal well being http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-surprised.gif
