Hi everyone, I just joined today. I bought the game (MTW and VI Battle Collection) two months ago, thinking it might be a good change from Civilization III and Age of Mythology, maybe I'll play it once or twice, it could be good fun...
Well, as it turns out, it became an obsession.
I've started my campaigns as the Egyptians (got whooped in 50 years), then Byzantines (got bored with too much money), Poles (same problem), Turks (it's cool, haven't finished it, might go back to it), Spanish, and now as the Italians (early/expert). The game just keeps getting better and better.

A couple of questions (and forgive me if these have been answered in a topic yesterday, I'm just a n00b http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif)

1. Does anyone know if I need to get the Invasion 2.01 patch for the game, or does the Battle Collection edition already cover it? (Patch description says it fixes the bug where kings die at 56, but I've had kings live to 70.)

2. I've heard a lot about Medmod. Is it worth installing? I like to play GA rather than destroy everyone in conquest and I like the challenge. I take it that it is harder than vanilla VI. I'd appreciate it if someone told me the main differences in the mod and the pros and cons of installing it.

1. Not sure, version number is at the top left of the main screen.

2. Only homelands and conquest goals are supported for new factions. I'm not sure whether medmod has GA support though. It does tweak the AI a bit so it can build bigger and better armies, it also introduces a couple of new concepts that aren't for everyone though.

Welcome to the Org and Entrance Hall Marquis. Fear you are allowed to be a n00b as you put it. We all were at one time.

The Battle Collection has the patch so you need not worry about that.

I think if you visit the latest MedMod topic over in the Dungeon, it may list the features of the mod. Most people really enjoy the challenge of the mod, but as Xiphias said, some of the changes bother a few folks.

Medmod is very good, if only because the unit line up is much better than in the original. However it is also a lot more difficult so you may want to play some more campaigns.

Thanks for the tips, guys.
I will find out more about the mods from the different rooms, before I decide to switch over to one.

Ellesthyan, you have a good point. Although I'm quite comfortable with the game now, there's still a lot of stuff that I need to learn by playing more.

I've never tried fighting with dismounted knights. Last night I bought a couple of mercenary Druzhinas. Let's see how they fare today.
