Aaaagggghh Is there any way at all to stop or at least reduce the chance of the game file becoming corrupted? Its really starting to pee me off, I cant play a single game without the file becoming corrupted and the Kings influence jumping around all over the place for no reason at all. I thought it was because of too much saving and overwriting the file so I have played several games without any saves at all, and the exact same thing happens (before even approaching 60% of the map owned)- Kings influence jumps around for no reason at all (latest game, moving from 9 to 1 when no action took place at all)and often causes a civil war. I sure hope CA fixes this for RTW because at the moment its making the game pretty much unplayable

What version of the game are you on? do you use any of the cheatcodes or run in debug mode (-ian) with any regularity? I don't see a groundswell of complaints about corrupted savegames or CTDs so I don't think the problems are widespread. I haven't had any problem in over a year.

Hmm...well, if you're having problems along those lines very often it might be worth wiping your system clean of MTW/VI and re-installing it and then installing the lastest patch.

try to quicksave (CTRL S) while in the ga,me before exiting and saving as normal. this creates a temp backup savegame that should be accessable should your file get corrupt again.

but I agree with HicRic's suggestion of a full reinstall with updates.

With regards to corruptions. Unless there is some sort of bug with your install, or system set up, there is a simple soloution: ONLY save at the beginning of each turn before you move any pieces. Never save mid turn or at the end of a turn. I have not had ANY corruptions since I adopted this practice. I've played dozens of campaigns since then. I had plenty of corruptions before.

I know this sounds backwards, we all want to save those long series of moves we make, right? It's more efficient, right? That's what I thought too, but I noticed a pattern of corruptions when I did it that way.

I suspect that there are some interface bugs that creep in when you save late in a turn. The more stuff you have to move (late in a game), the more likely a corruption is. The end turn cleans up the short term problems/corruptions if there were no intermediate saves, but for some reason late turn saves seem to write some erroneous info that doesn't always clear.
