I was wondering if anybody has seen anything regarding command and control or zone of control for RTW.

Armies of this period were usually very rigidly deployed with great limitations on command. Orders were generally issued in great advance of the battle with some cavalry or other certain elements being the only wild card.

I believe there should be some great limitations on maneuverability for the rank and file line elements(pikes and legionaries.

A battle line of pikes, would have a tremendous problem doing what we do with them in MTW, about face, shift, no change right, change depth, change depth again, etc etc...

I'm not saying that they should take all this away from us...but I think there should be some definite limitations as well as a Zone of Control radius for the general.

Just my two cents worth...I'd love to discuss this with everyone else.

in hte absence of having junior officer running about on the battlefield I thnik the best way to approach this would be a time delay on orders. The further a unit is from the general the longer it takes for it to respond to an order. C & C would require more skill as would have to make a judgement call about what was likely to happen, and not simply rely on being able to respond instantly to problems.

really however most ancient armies shouldn't be much more than meat grinders. You pointed them and pressed go.

perhaps a speed or morale modifier for those outside of command...

Perhaps you could use your light cavalry as couriers for orders.

Perhaps it can be done when you select a high dificult level or can be an option in the preferences screen.

I think that it isn't a great idea include it by default.
