playing Irish in VI,
bribed a pict army the same turn the pict king died
- no heirs, expected them to dissolve,

oh no, they continue - without a king

now i have to eliminate all pict forces before the war can end, because you cannot make peace unless there is a faction leader to offer peace to

it is a little complicated to put a save game up at the org, because i will also need to upload the campaign files - i added a new unit to the irish.

but if anyone wants to have a look see, i will simply have to upload the save file and the campaign mod.

I've seen the Imagawaga clan in STW running without a diamyo once.

And I suspect that you won't be able to wipe out the Picts, they will still running without lands or army.

Have you checked your units? It possible that his king is now in your army, how weird it might sound. It sound simular to a bug I've encountered but that one involved inheritence from a faction that died out (and what I suspect got a civil war, but all troops and land did you gain instead).

wow I'd love to see that.

I get giddy whenever I spot a Rebel ship...

oh boy,
what a busy busy 100 years war that was,

the vikings and i were both allies,
we both attacked the remaining picts at the same time,
the vikings lost a province to pict rebellion a couple of turns later - and the pict king was one of the "rebel" units...finally they had a king,
i sent all my emissaries and princesses at him,
not interested, so i bribed as many armies as i could reach and invaded a few more provinces,
now heres the weirdest part,
the picts built a berserker in a province where i had bribed an army,
the berserker was tougher than the 400 spearmen i bribed and wiped them out,
NOW, next turn the sole surviving berserker was suddenly viking and i was at war with them as well

i dont know how he changed sides from pict to viking, he was a pict when i fought him on the field.
The last pict army fell to the vikings a couple of turns later and they were finally gone..

Now the Vikings have ships that can tear my fleet apart,
for the next 100 years i was retreating to ireland whenever i could clear a shipping lane, and ransoming back from the Vikings 100's of my men at a time.

Viking ships were being sunk at the rate of ten to sixteen per turn and i was building 2 each turn to replace my losses - i don't know where the viking got sooo many ships so often from, but he was at the point of wearing my navy down and i was flat out of money and could build no more ships - when all of a sudden his ally, Mercia, turned on him.
Well that was a shock, he must have doing nothing more than building ships because 2 turns later i get a truce offer from the viking, (i was also sending assassins at all the viking heirs, and the Viking King had no heirs left).
I figured he wanted an end to the naval war so he could actually build some troops, and some breathing space to "raise" heirs.

At the end of the naval war i had 3 admirals with 6 stars, and a couple at 5 stars - they were sinking every last viking ship that came into the sea where they were stationed - very handy
But at the end i could not replace my naval losses and was on the brink of being overwhlmed...

Now i'm back to allied with the Vikings, their war with Mercia continues, Mercia and I are neutrals
- so i am finally climbing out of the red with my trade profits...

NorthUmbria is about to go under and the rest of England is changing hands so rapidly that many of the provinces are nothing more than wasteland...

Now all i have to do is bide my time, rebuild my assassin corps, hire some fresh mercenary infantry and when the war settles into the "peace of exhaustion" i can step in and mop up both the Vikings and Mercia... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-juggle.gif

Yeah, something like this happened to me before too. I don't remember who I was playing at the time but I decided the Italians needed wiping out so I mopped them up, got the faction has died out message and thought no more about it.

Then a few turns later I noticed that there were some Italian forces in poland. They didn't have a king and weren't at war with me.

This will be a long post... (this tale is told from memory and records i have kept. Yes i write down most major events that happen in my campaings...so what? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/flat.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif )

Only happened once in a high campaign with the Turks. I had blitzed the Byzantines and locked down much of Asia minor and the holy land by the time the Mongols com storming out of the hills. This was the only time i have ever seen the Mongols come with over 30,000 troops. anyway, things are fine for the next 20 years. I am doing my thing and the Khan is doing his, I am leading the turks to build a great empire that is fast becoming the only power in the Mediterranean. Peace had reigned for a long time between myself and the Mongols, whose armies were camped in the ruins of Poland by now. The Christians of the west were still at war with one another, but the Holy Roman Empire had rallied to take the fight to the horde. using the .matteosartori. command i was able to check out the war between them, the Germans were not doing all that bad, but they could never keep hold of any province they took as the counter attack would overrun them.

fast forward 10 years, the German king pleads for me to ally with him. The Turkish Sultanate reaches from Greece to Morroco, having cleared out all remaining kingdoms of the east, i was in the mood for a good fight so i agreed. The alliance was sealed and i began building up forces to launch the attack, clearly the Khan noticed and began massing his troops near the black sea provinces, or maybe he was planning an invasion himself i'm not sure. IIRC i launched the invasion as soon as my troops had been gathered, hitting the Crimea, Khazar, and Kiev all at once. Khazar fell without much resistance, but Kiev and Crimea turned into a bloody stalemate. AS my warriors try to gain a foothold in the Crimea the Khan leads a counter attack on my forces under the heir to the throne (can't remember his name only the fact he was my heir). The Turkish Prince fights well, driving off most of the mongol forces and according to the replay even kills the khan himself. "Alright" i begin to say, "i doubt he had any more heirs, but we'll have to wait and see."

I'm pretty happy at this point, the Mongol counter attack is driven off and the screen takes me back to the strategy map, but then i am shocked when i'm not reported that the Mongol khan was killed in battle. I knew he wasn't taken prisoner so i began to wonder if i had even fought him at all. i then punched in .matteosartori. again and could not find the khan at all though his forces were still rampaging through the steppes. Tat war went on, until i was able to secure a foothold across the black sea, so i start bribing Mongol generals to use their own forces against them. then i notice that in one of the stacks i bribed away, there is one of the Mongol khan's heirs, not a king but a prince which i thought was very strange. so i disbanded him and then i get the message when the turn ends "The Mongol Khan has died of an illness, his forces have degenerated ect ect."

So all the Mongols go rebel, though it didn't curve their blood lust. pretty soon rebel warriors waged a war against me in an attempt to avenge their "Fallen" leader and pushed me out of my holdings along the northern black sea. about 20 years after that the Mongol khan comes back, and he has a big following that pledges their loyalty to him. the horde returned and went on to burn half of Europe before the Turkish empire was able to defeat them once more.

A long, yet strange tale.

VI 2.01 and only one mod,

a VI campaign which beefs up the Vikings starting position and adds an undersized bowman unit to the Irish.

The Vikings gets some extra ships, the capability to build more from the begining and some extra trade goods in their provinces - they no longer "heir" themselves into untenability (get so many heirs units they cant build anything) and the Vikings become a major nuisance

It is amazing how much easier the Irish are to play when they have a small unit of bowmen too.

wait, what do you mean by making viks not heirs themselves into untenability?

did you make them richer or actually reduced the number of heirs?

if the latter, wouldn't that possibly effect heirs and potentially cause the weird bugs of factions without king?

BTW, how large did you make the irish bowman unit? I'd be interested in modding that in too.

sorry for delayed reply,

i made the vikings richer - they will most defiantely be a major nuisance long before 900AD.

i am considering making the Sealgaire mod available for download - it does make the Irish more fun to play
