It took me about 20 minutes after becoming a member to this site to be able to post a message because I clicked the wrong link in the email the sent me and didnt realize it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif
but anyway to my first question
1. Disloyal generals who become unruly during times of peace? What is the deal there? I'm playing version 2.01, the version installed with VI, and I was playing as the Turkish. I wiped out all the Egyptians and the Byzantines and decided I'd stop with the violence and work on my economy. I had full loyalty or one less than full loyalty and the same ruler throughout the entire war with these countries. I began working on my economy and was becoming quite happy because of the cash flow when after 5 years of non violence, about 3/4 of my generals were some how at 4 or less loyalty ... yea I was wondering about that one. I had the same king and didnt do any treason acts so I have no idea why they would rebel against me. I ended up restarting as a different faction and gave the turks a break.
2. Unlogical alliances. If Im playing as the Italians and Im allied with Germany and Hungary, both non muslim countries obviously, and I attack Turkey, who they were allied with strangely considering on how all christians were supposed to hate Muslims at that time, and then they cancel my alliance? WHY? Shouldn't these non muslim countries be glad that I sent a crusade against turks in the first place and seek to reward me with beautiful princesses and teutonic knights but no... instead they unally with me and now I have to worry about an attack on 3 fronts. The only reason I can see behind this is because they wanted to prevent me from spreading too quickly... which would make sense but if the turks are weakened and the Hungarians are right there wouldnt they wanna hop in too and grab some lands instead of worrying me
3. How exactly do you get money from the pope? If I'm lucky, ONCE out of every game I will get my 1000 florins from the pope himself... and I have no idea why. I ally myself with only catholic countries... nope no gold. I dont attack the catholics... still nada. I have positively NO idea on how to get gold from the pope, and it would be nice for those early stages of the game when you are struggling for cash.
4. Whats the deal with the lack of princess marriages to muslims? I can be the most influencial ruler on the map and still no one will marry into my family, but HEY alliances are just super... and then with the lack of outside princesses comes all the inbred conditions I had at all times a minium of 5 generals with some sort of inbred condition to him and more popping out every turn. It's just too much...
well i ran out of questions for now I'll think of more later.
thanks for listening to me ramble

I can kinda answer a few of these.

2. The Turks were probably more influential than you. People want to ally with strong factions. Otherwise its like you said, maybe too powerful.

3. I've had it happen on simultaneous turns. I think the Pope sends money to the poorest Catholic faction every once in a while. Not sure if its even turn, probably not though.

Hope that helps a bit.

hmmm well that would make sense
I guess I should check out the influence level of the turks... but I doubt its very high they were getting ripped apart by the Mongols years before I even began my attack.
and with your thoughts on the pope and gold... that makes sense as well. He needs to be a little more generous though because Im not the poorest very often.

built,built,built.....

your king/sultan will gain Builder/Magnificent builder virtues..which gives +10 happiness all provinces/+10 happiness to all provinces and +2 loyalty all generals..

welcome.

the alliance system is completely illogical as they try to maintain a balance of power and will refuse to ally with the human superpower even if you have them on the ropes.

the papal handouts are random to a rather poor or zealous faction.

they come out of the papal treasury so the pope usually hands out something yearly but soon runs out of cash.

this is why you get lots at the beginning and nothing afterwards since

1) you've expanded to a size that doesn't need welfare paychecks

2) welfare fund dried up.

also, welcome http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

thanks for the welcoming everyone
Like Amon said after all that building I did get the Magnificent Builder Virtue, now that I think of it I dont think a ruler as gone by that hasnt gotten it from me, but they still rebelled during peace and all of that building... maybe enemy spies messed up the loyalty or something I dont know

Or you could have suffered from the influence bug. Occasionally if your influence is at max it will drop to 0 and slowly climb back up. Influence affects loyalty.

Quote[/b] (soibean @ June 13 2004,07:22)]2. Unlogical alliances
The MTW diplomacy system is simple, but even in it simplicity it is illogical. Europeans will happily ally with Muslims and a few decades later destroy all these alliances by crusading to Egypt. Just think of alliances as the present status and don't spend time bothering why they are refused. The computer appears to need a very good reason to ally, and only very little to unally.

Quote[/b] ]4. Whats the deal with the lack of princess marriages to muslims?
Muslims aren't the only victims, though it seemed more pronounced in my Egyptian campaign than in others. But Muslims don't need princesses as their monarch will be maried the moment he ascends to the throne.
Princesses are hard to get, but usually the computer will accept a mariage proposal if the AI take the initiative to an alliance. So if you see emissaries with your monarch as their target, quickly find a princess of said fraction and propose. I believe that it is also possible to turn down an alliance offer and then ask for a princess, but this has to be done quickly.

Inbred vices are random, and have nothing to do with mariage with local noblewomen. It is an old rumour, but the developers denied it quite some time ago. The thread in which they did it has unfortunately been lost.
