Hi all,

his holiness behaves quite weird in my current campaign - I play the English and entering high was so big that everybody hated me - so no surprise that the Spanish attacked my fleet in their waters. - bussiness as usuall http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I already had Portual from the late Almos so I thought some iron provinces would be nice to add to my empire and grabbed a badly defended Leon. - The pope stays silent and all my former allies go over to the spanish.

The Spanish had only Cordoba, Valencia, Navarre and Castile and I am close to the 50% map so I rightfully expected at least a warning from the pope.

Was fine with me so after sinking the spanish fleet and getting cordoba and castille too without interference from the holy see some of my former allies start naval attacks. The Italians with the biggest navy are a pain as they interrupt my supply route to kiev where the horde will show up soon so I proceed to sink their navy. They are also smaller (have only their early starting provinces) and after 3-4 turns I get a warning from the pope to leave the Italians alone - mind that the spanish are down to 2 provinces and under siege in a third and the only conflict with the much bigger italians is naval.

I checked the pope for an expected unhinged loon V&V but drew a complete blank - no V&V at all - none of us is excom and both Italy and spain are allies to the pope (he s neutral to me).

That behavior of the pope contradicts a lot of posts here and it is the first time I see it - just a whacky campaign or does he act unpredictible sometimes?

Indeed nick_maxell, His Holiness can seem a bit umm...less than hinged, sometimes. Same in my campaigns. One must remember his natual affinity for the Italian people; though he actually wars with them more often than any other faction, he will defend them against all other enemies.

Must be that rumored hot-blooded-ness so often touted by the Latin-based peoples, is all I can figure.

Sadly, in mid-campaign, one must prove adept unashamedly, at killing the pope.

The Pope can be strange at times.
Another fine example of his un-hinged behaviour was in my last campaign as the Hungarians where he gave me 1000 florins 9 times in a row for my good work to the church....I didn't even have any of my provinces but I wasn't complaining http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
