hi there,

I'm playing Medmod IV 3.14. I'm on my first campaign, Early/Norm/GA/Almo. It is fantastic. The limited troop building capacity makes it much more strategic. The huge number of new units, and unit stat tweaking make it way more balanced. And the biggest thing by far, (for me) is the enemy AI in battle, and the choice of units it brings to battle.

Up to this point I had never lost a battle in VI, in Medmod I have lost two already. It's a real eye opener, and it's great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It's really improved my play, being up against decent opposition.

It's really worth a try folks.

cheers

I just finished a MedMod v3.12 campaign as English on normal difficulty. It was very challenging for me even though it's not one of the more difficult factions to play. I did manage to conquer the whole map by 1450 three turns before the game ends in 1453 I needed a bit of luck to win, and I got it at certain critical moments during the game. The campaign was quite epic and took months to complete since I play out all battles. Although the tactical ai is the same as the regular game, the ai builds much better units which makes the battles more difficult to win, and you don't win them all. I had many castle assaults and defenses during this campaign. Also, bribing rebel armies was an important aspect of my strategy, and mercenaries did help out at one critical point in the game. I probably didn't develop the tech tree as well as I could have, that being the weakest part of my game since I didn't study it. I just used the ingame text explanations as a guide on what buildings to construct. I never did figure out how to make the best cavalry, but got them from Palestine after I conqured it.

Managing your economy is a balancing act as well, and I operated with less than 20,000 florins in the bank for almost the entire campaign. It seemed to me you had to make strategic choices because you couldn't develop everything and still fend off attacks by ai factions. I opted to maintian strong military forces which limited some of my other strategic options. At times I had to fight battles of attrition because the army I had to maintian to counter a threat was too large for my economy. Although I played cautiously (possibly too cautiously) and expanded slowly (possibly too slowly), I still suffered setbacks. I didn't see any way to blitz the ai and win quickly. Wes did a fine job on this mod.

There is still a bit of weirdness with rebellions sometimes coming out with all siege weapons, but that's not modable as far as I know. I'm currently trying a MedMod v3.14 French campaign which looks like an early loss because I got a long run of princesses and my king will probably die without an heir.

i like this mod & would recommend it to anyone looking for something slightly different. the only downside is that the AI factions cannot grasp the significance of the homelands & so, time & again, you see them continuing to push forward, when the sensible tactic is to consolidate & protect their territory that produces the more powerful units.

Maybe it's just me, but I find when I play single player campaigns, I always have -ian on so I can switch to AI players and build stuff for them. In the end, I'm pretty much playing against myself, which is pretty sad when I stop to think about it.

Well - if you're after a challenge, you won't find someone more euivilent to your level of skill...

hi,

I stand corrected about the AI, it's the same as before, but the unit selection has been tweaked to give better balance. This actaully gives the appearance (to me anyway) of better AI on the battlefield as the computer turns up with a more balanced army, which makes the battle that much harder.

A good example of this is a recent attack from my Allies the English in Portugal, who stabbed me in the back, and invaded Cordoba, their starting army was, IIRC, 6x Norman Knights, 2x Longbow, 2x Spearmen, 4x Claymore, 2x Billmen. It was a tough fight, I ended up organising a fighting withdrawal, and had to send in reinforcements to lift the sige. BTW those Norman Knights are tough LOL

Along the line of odd rebellions, I've had a 'peasant' rebellion and got 3 stacks of FMAA, FFK, Norman Knights, FS and Arbs.

I tried installing Medmod 3.14 (I have VI), but it's not working. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Is there something I'm doing wrong? I downloaded and installed Medmod_IV_v3_Graphics and Medmod_IV_3.14.

Should I get any other files?

^^^^ scroll down in your single player campaign selection section. You should see MM early and MM Hight.

Now for my question anyone got a tech tree and unit description guides for the MedMod.

Thanks.

I could have sworn the battle AI had been tweaked. I never remember the regular AI flanking me a often as they do now.
I had one enemy general run his entire army up through a stand of trees to flank me. I had a cav heavy army my self and didn't dare go into the trees after him. I had to reposition my whole army to try to counter his flanking me.
I don't ever remember that happening to me before the medmod.

I like this mod very much. I play as the Egyptian and have conquered half the map. The other half belongs to the excommunicated Swedes, with the Pope at Naples. The rebels are plagueing both the swedes and egyptian empire, with 100 years still to go. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif
