Gents,

I've played games as the Almohads, Byzantines, English, and Germans at this point, all in Early on Expert. What I have found is there is commonality to combat emphasizing the role of archers in the game, and that combat usually settles down into a shieldwall/archers/cavalry counterattack style of play no matter the faction or the actual troop types. I have been thinking of playing without archers myself, to make things more challenging (I only allow myself 16 units max per region as it is), but I thought I would check to see if a mod existed that reduced the effectiveness of archers, or alternatively how hard such a mod would be to impliment.

Cheers,

Christopher

It's interesting that the archers are too strong in single player campaign, but not strong enough in multiplayer tactical battles. As you progress through the eras of the campaign, the archers do become less effective since later era units have more armor. You can edit the projectiles.txt file and lower the accuracy of archers and other ranged units. Dropping archer (SBOW) accuracy from 0.6 to 0.4 should have a noticable effect.

Thanks Puzz3d. That info on the location and scaling of the bow ratings is probably all I need.

Cheers,

Christopher

I was actually thinking of disabling all archer units myself actually. I never got round to it though.

Why do this? I find spear wall + archers the best budget army ever.

it's hard to do much in a blitz for speediest conquest game without using archers.

used well, each unit can rack up 150-200 kills and that helps a lot.

Archers can be annoying in battles where your outnumbered since unless you have fast cav your units tend to get bogged down in swamps of enemy. And of course horse archers are extremely annoying to chase down.
