Hello everyone. This is my first real post. But I wanted it to be a direct thank you to Froggy and The Guide.
I've been playing MTW since the day it hit store shelves. And I played STW prior to that. So I've always considered myself an experienced player. But I decided to read through Froggy's guide a few weeks ago and a whole new world has opened up to me. I am now a much better general on the battle field. The tactic of pinning a unit and flanking was ground breaking for me. As was the whole idea of setting spears to hold, while defending, with a unit of FMAA behind them and then sending the FMAA into fray.
I realize now that my previous tactics, really weren't tactics at all. I simply have been over powering the enemy, not out fighting them.
Well, again, thanks to Froggy and this site as a whole.
Cheers

Greetings. Froggy's guide is the best.
Most battles in medieval times were shoving matches, so you're in good company.

it's only fair that I should add my thanks here as well, since I couldn't have enojyed MTW as much as I do if it weren't for Froggy's guide and other people's contributions.
so, thanks a bunch. great help, and allows for great fun, much greater than I would have had on my own.

Yeah, that guide is wicked. I used to charge my chivalric knights and royal knights head on into a hedgehog of spears, and mainly winning battles, because you can't really lose them with 8 chivalric knights charging down against the AI's rabble. Now I am learning about the finesse of the game.

I remember all those times I use calvary to charge against the spears. Reminds me of the scene in Braveheart.

Hi SirGonkSevenT3 and welcome to the .Org.
An expression of gratitude in your first post probably moves the awareness of your name up the list of promoteables around here.
I have little doubt that Lady frog will remind me repeatedly what an open-minded, generous, thoughtful and all-round good fellow you are. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Good to have you aboard, mate. Any particular significance to your choice of name?

Hi there KukriKhan,
Well I'm glad my first impression is a good one. The postings I've read here have been among the most courteous I've ever seen in a forum and I hope to maintain the standard I see has been set.
The story behind my name, you ask? It's not a very exciting story, but I'm quite a bit of a Star Wars fan and I love the noise that the power droids make Gonk. And one of the first forums I ever joined was, you guessed it, a Star Wars related forum. I was devastated to learn that Gonk was already taken. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif So in an amazingly creative moment I decided to add 73, by birth year, to Gonk. TAKEN http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif So, I settled upon GonkSevenT3. It's been my forum name in one form or another ever since.

Amen Like you, I've had M:TW since it came out. I played a few campaigns, and could just about bluff my way through on normal difficulty by throwing huge armies at the enemy.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to revisit M:TW, partly because I was getting excited about R:TW. This time I read the Org's forums and frogbeastegg's guides. Talk about a revelation They're fantastic. I'm still not a great general, but I'm way better than I used to be.
I'm re-reading the unit guide on the train into work at the moment. Gets me a few funny looks occasionally, but what the hell. All I need now is a couple of weeks off work so I can really get into the campaign game.
Hmm....No wonder new comers in the MP foyer nowadays are harder to beat http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
Hehehe....this shows frogbeastegg guide really rocks. Cheers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/medievalcheers.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ceasaryes.gif

Citera[/b] (nizar @ Juni 15 2004,21:32)]I remember all those times I use calvary to charge against the spears. Reminds me of the scene in Braveheart.
It's a good strategy if:
The spearmen is easy to flank and you got those two other cav unit close and soon hitting the flanks or the back http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Fast unit kill if they rout and they won't last long anyway.
Charging polearms head-on is another matter though... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
I too must acknowledge the wonderful work that Lady froggy has done.
she has introduced me to many units and how to use them, saving me tons of time in experimentation although some deviations form standard usage would certainly yield nice results.
having a rudimentary knowledge, you can easily assess the odds for a battle esp. with prebattle screen in VI.
cav into spears, I must say that I still do that.
only for suiciding worthless heirs though. wedge formation into a wall of spears is a very nice way to end his miserable existence although I'm sometimes shocked that he is able to destroy the whole enemy army.
also, Lady Froggy has some very nice stories in the Mead Hall too. recommend you check them out.

Hehehe, I just charged a worthless heir into a wall of spears. His unit routed the entire army Now he's a skilled attacker http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
I shall take your advice and visit the mead hall as well. mmmmmmmmmmead. Now I'm thirsty http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/barrel.gif

Yes I must agree thanks to the guide I find myself winning more than loosing these day and that is a much better feeling. Thanks frogbeastegg for a great guide. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif
Wow, with this kind of response & enthusiasm by the members of this forum, I might as well get my hands on this guide also.
The only problem is, I don't know where to get it. So if anybody out there is kind enough to provide me with a link or something, I'll be eternally grateful.
Thanks.

I can't recommend you checking it out enough. Them actually. You should read both the beginners guide and the unit guide.
Froggy's Guides (http://www.totalwar.org/strategy/index.shtml)
They are both very good. You can find them here on the forums or follow the link, I think I put in, above. The link should bring you to the guides section of totalwar.org. Her guides are set up in a very user friendly way with hyperlinks to help you navigate around.
Well, good luck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif Hope you find them as useful as I did, and still do. I tend to check them out every time I encounter a unit I'm not familiar with.
Wow, this IS really some good stuff, there's TONS in those guides that I can't even imagine that it existed at all in MTW.
Allow me to also give my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to you frogbeastegg for doing such a GREAT job on those two guides. And not to forget SirGonkSevenT3 for providing me with the link to the guides.
We who are about to go and play MTW, and kill, slaughter, and maim thousands of AI rabble salute you frogbeastegg Kaiser.
Sorry, I just couldn't help putting that down.
Anyway, thanks again guys.

Kaiser, the link SirGonkSevenT3 gave is correct, but those guide aren't updated. You can find the updated versions the guides forum. The guides forum is on the forums-list just under the entrance hall.
Look for the Beginner's Guide and the Complete Unit Guide.

Thank you frostbeastegg for writing such great guides.
Unlike most MTW owners I got my game without an instruction book so you can imagine how useful your guide was. Now I can actually move my whole army at the same time and take on armies outnumbering me by 3 to 1 with relatively insignificant casualties. Drinks all around
