View Full Version : Problem with Jihad units (as Turks)

Hello.

I'm playing the Turks, and I had control of all provinces from Egypt-the northeast of the map (Khazar, Rayzan) etc. Then the Mongols showed up with their huge army and I forfeited Khazar.

The same time, the Egyptians (who had dissapeared eariler) and the Crusaders shows up in Acre.

I make a Jihad, and order it to move to Acre, but I forgot to actually move the unit to the destination province. Later on, my provinces rebelled right after I got a notification saying that the Jihad failed and the men in it abandoned the cause. A rebellion ensues.

I go back to my previous save game, and this time actually send the Jihad unit over with some of my regular units as support. They win the province and all is good.

Later on, I decide to send a Jihad against the Mongols in Khazar, they win the province after a fierce fight, however, the game notifies me that the men have given up hope and are leaving the army. A huge rebellion starts off with only 2 (out of around 11) provinces stay loyal.

I believe the cause for these rebellions is a failed Jihad which causes my Sultan's prestige to drop so low that his generals rebel. However, in the second case, I manage to recapture the province that was the Jihad's goal, so why does the game say the Jihad failed?

Right now, I can't go back to my game because the rebellion is spiralling out of control (ie, I the rebellious prvinces themselves have internal rebellions).

I'd appreciate any help and insight into this matter. Thanks

That is odd. Was there still a Mongol garrison in a fort in Khazan?

Jihads can fail if their ribat is lost because of a rebellion, but you should have received the Without the backing of the ribat, the Jihad fails message, not the losing heart message.

I read somewhere that your jihad can fail if you take too long to achieve your objective.

Two things could have happened with the Khazar Jihad:
1) did you actually capture the castle? a jihad won't get the happy message until the land and castle are theirs. Until then it can still fail, which leads to...
2) When the numbers in a jihad or crusade get too low, they automatically disband. Could be that after that fight, the numbers in the jihad were low enough to auto-disband.

Try and keep it alive next time by stuffing in junk unit's and maybe any spare mercs as you dont pay maitnence costs whilst they are in the Jihad

yep, just shove in extra units and then assault the castle.

you also don't have to assault or fight with the jihad troops but use other troops.

as long as the marker is there, it'll get credit for the victory.

No happy message about warriors returning to their people?

if not, fight and completely conquer the province as well as shove units into the marker until happy message happens and make sure the ribat in the origin province is safe.

Thanks a lot for the input guys I'll be trying out what you said in tonight's session. BTW, if I can't manage to take the castle in time, is there a way I could 'cheat' and delete that Jihad unit? Or will I have to start all over again?

The Turks are awesome, I like their horse archers, and the jannisaries, but other than that I really don't play as them.

really? their hybrids are awesome too.

they are also the most economically prosperous faction in the game in early as there's guaranteed king's ransom from Eggy and often two or three as well as a couple form the Byz if you play your cards right.

Want 50k in your warchest in 1100 on expert? Turks are the ones to get it done.

Another weird jihad failing story: I invade and conquer Cyprus but need to pull that army completely out to put out another fire. Rebels pop up, so i unleash a jihad on them along with a stack of regular troops. Same turn, my allies the English send troops to assist me. I get the Jihad-has-arrived message and the muslim rebels turn over the prov to my jihad. No problem, right? The English will just go home. Wrong. The game still goes to the battle screen and informs me that the English have invaded. Seeing as the English have sent 15 stacks of troops, i withdraw my forces and now face a war against the English who have a vastly superior navy, and i receive the failed Jihad message. Now, i had ships in the sea around Cyprus, so there's no way the English could have launched a hostile invasion. Talk about rotten luck for that Jihad http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-furious3.gif

You may have lost your, Ribat, or lost influence as a result, (this seems well random a lot of the time)

That's one I've never heard of before.
