Here's a listing of all 492 border crossings in the game. Ripped from the campmap\startpos .TXTs. Not just the ones you can see in the game (by holding your cursor over an adjacent province), but also from sea invasions. Includes rivers and coasts.

Thus you can see that Algeria from the Africa Coast results in an Arid-climate battle, but all other crossings result in a Rock Desert battle. To make it all fit nicely on two pages, it's in Word format here (http://home.speedfactory.net/mikestar/MTW_Border_Summary.doc). Or, Rich Text Format here (http://home.speedfactory.net/mikestar/MTW_Border_Summary.rtf).

Also here's a dippy little Excel spreadsheet (http://home.speedfactory.net/mikestar/MTW_FvT_Planner.xls) which tells you what makes more money - increasing your farm level before or after building your next castle level and trade-building level (for ports that are making lots of trade money). It's often a close call because while a trade building increase usually makes tons more money, it takes a long time to make the castle and trade upgrades - time that the farm can be raking in cash.
