this is from a book i have on romans
here is the ranks i will go from lowest to highest
Signifer- A standard bearer who carried the emblem of a century
Cornicene -a horn blower
calvary soldier- a soldier on horse back
aquilifer- the standard bearer with the golden eagle
auxilary -a non citizen who fought in the army basically a mercenary
legionary -a foot soldier only romans could be one
centurion- the leader of a century
primus pilus - the senior centurion in a legion
praefectus castorum - senior officer in charge of training and organazation of a legion
Tribune- officer who helped the legatus run the legion
legate - comander of a legion
here is the organazation
contubernium- 8 soldiers who shared a tent
century-80 men
cohort- 480 men
legion 6000 men
