Quick question for you all.

I'm playing VI campaign at the moment as the Irish. This is the first time I've ever really been successful as the Irish, or anyone other than the Vikings for that matter.

The Vikings met with an early set back where I virtually wiped out their army when they tried to invade Connacht. I did so much damage to them that they stopped invading everywhere. The provinces they attacked early on revolted and turned rebel and they pulled back to Norway and Jutland. As it all stands now, no one on mainland England is at war with anyone else. They all seem to be living along side each other very nicely. So I don't really want to invade there yet. I figured I'd build a fleet and take out the Vikings who have isolated themselves.

But I can't What the heck? I can't put any ships into the big middle ocean square between the coast of England and where the Vikings are. Am I missing something here, or are we just not allowed to attack the Vikings? How can you win if you can't take over the whole map?

I'm just confused. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-help.gif

you don't need those two places to win

ok. no deep sea ships for anyone but Vikings.

only way you can reach there is by inciting a rebellion on one of the lands, bribe it, and then buildings ships there and invade the other island.

this is unnecessary really.

however, I did it once for kicks and the fact that the Viks pissed me off with a few raids.

Hehehehe ok good info. I have to admit my primary desire to invade there is simply because I was mad they tried to invade Connacht.

so stir up a rebellion using spies and bishops and then bribe tha rebels.

build a ship and invade the other.

don't even leave them the dignity of exile on the miserable islands. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Are spies really effective at that? I remember the Shinobi (SP?) did a darn fine job of that in STW. I've never really noticed how well spies did though.

they are ok in VI.

main thing is that the Vikings have loyalty problem anyhow and on the VI map, the spies are really accessible.

Here's a challenge, play as Vikings on Expert.....gather ALL your men and invade a rebel province immediately (2nd turn), then turn the taxes so high that your homelands rebel, the try and win the game from there, without ever regaining the homelands.

that's interesting but why?

you'll not be able to replace ships for ages and you'll not have good trade for long.

for kicks, maybe

it sounds pretty dumb as two decades into the game, you'll find all the abbeys gone and you won't have a base to stay.

interesting situation but maybe sack Ireland regardless and work from there.
