whats the deal with the anti-me feeling throughout europe?
Im the spanish and I have all of spain conquered as well as northern africa. I stopped there for now.
I have the full line of stars for influence and I havent waged war against any catholic or orthodox countries since the beginning of the game, and yet no one will marry into my family, I cant give my girls away, and I have assassins entering my country every single turn (by the dozens it seems)
what to do what to do

yeah, it sucks.. i can never figure out why i can/cannot marry usually. sometimes, it seems to help to go to war with a faction, and then sue for peace by proposing marriage to their daughter. but other times, i've been able to 'mine' a single faction for wives for years while being at peace with them for a long time.. i'm using medmod though, it may be different in the normal game.

If your neighbors to the east are the Almo's or Egyptians, try them? An alliance is an alliance, whether with Catholics or others.

In my campaigns, the other factions prefer their princesses young - so don't be stingy, offering only that 30-year old, when you've got a 17-year old tucked away. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

who cares about alliances?

if they refuse to marry your ugly daughter or your ugly prince, think of it as a pretense for war

storm across the borders and smash them up and see if they change their mind when they are getting sieged in a castle.

if not, take their lands as compensation.

Has anyone ever benefited from a marriage? You know, how they say you might inherit lands if that faction's leader is killed and they have no heirs?

yeah.

i've inherited Polish lands as the French once.

they actually did pretty well in the East and had half the steppes.

I could also pincer the HRE.

you need to have the faction die out with their princess who is married to you of the same generation.

ie. direct blood relation with the king and no brothers to that princess.

I later used Syria assasins to help the AI along with this. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hmmmmmmm I think I may need to build up some assassins and do some damage to the Danes tonight. I'm married, well my princess, is married to their prince.

sorry. you need their princess to be married to your prince in order to inherit.

current situation is no go unless you wipe yourself out then the Danes wil inherit your lands.

if killing, grand inquisitors are probably a lot better than assasins.

also, it woudl be interesting to see if you can kill their royals in battle and still get their lands. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

I've only inherited lands twice in countless campaigns, and both times I was neutral/allied with them, so I'm fairly sure you can't be at war with a faction and inherit their lands. Then again, it's happened so rarely I can barely remember

I have inherited Spanish lands as the Byzantines once. They had just launched a crusade at my allies the almo's, the next turn they die and I get their remaining lands (Castille & Valencia).

My roommate once benefitted greatly from a royal marriage. He was playing as the English when about halfway through the game (around 1250 or so), Spain's king died with no heirs. Since the Spanish king's youngest daughter was married to the English crown prince, my roommate inherited the entire Spanish Empire, including the Iberian peninsula, southern France, and part of North Africa He was then able to squeeze the French out of existence. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

If you are at war with an ally of the faction you want to marry into you probably won't get far, unless you make peace. Also I find that once you become a superpower no one on the map likes you, probably because you've ground their cities into rubble, killed their men and raped their women. Forgive and forget is what I say http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Only in Shogy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif and not from marriage, but from alliance.

Funny enough you can marry thier princess and still be at war with the country http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Works very well if you have a inactive war, then you can marry thier princesses again and again.

Very rare does this occur. There were scattered reports at .com stating it. Back in shogun it was way over done, and hence they decided to tone it down this time round.

The larger you are, the more the AI would gang up against you. Again this happens to the AI as well. This behaviour is hard coded into the game. By 60%, you would probably be at war with everyone else and no trade income. Also, if you have a habit of breaking alliances, chances are others wouldnt trust you anymore.

Marry you girls to your generals to secure their loyalties, especially if you are the HRE with the low influence and low rebellious generals.
