Hello everyone,

I purchased STW:WE earlier today and am having significant problems running it. I can install the game with no problems but when I try to run it, the CD rom spins the disc and the game tries to run but after a second the Total War splash screen goes away and nothing happens. I thought maybe it was a video problem but it isn't even running in the task manager. I also tried a usb CD-Rom drive I have thinking maybe my drive was acting up for some reason to no avail. The demo for Shogun runs fine on this same system so I can't seem to figure out why the full version wouldn't.

I am running XP Home on a gaming laptop with a 3.2 P4, Ati 9600m video (Dx 9.0b), 1gig RAM, onboard sound. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Halcyon, and welcome to the .Org.

You've certainly got the hardware to run Warlord Edition, so I have to suspect software. You do have Windows Media Player installed, right? If so, then the usual culprit is video drivers.

Note: I'm not a tech expert, but we have several members and staff here who are - they'll be along to help as well. Meanwhile, check out the topics in the forum labelled Apothecary.

Welcome, Halcyon

I had the same problem upon installing my copy. I ran a disk cleanup, followed by a disk defragmentation. Upon restarting my computer it ran fine, with no more problems to date.

I'm also using XP. Never had problem with running the games (STW & MTW) but the problem is when I quit the game. It will just hang there. So usually I'll ctrl+alt+del to come back to desktop. Any suggestions why it happened ? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-furious3.gif

welcome, do you want me to post this in the apothecary, you'll get a better response there, but however the problem may well be drivers.

Thank you a ah_dut. I would appreciate it if you could move this there.

Thank you for the help so far. I tried running disk cleanup and defragmenting but it didn't work. Also, now whenever I try to install the game I get a message saying that there is an invalid CDcode on the CD-ROM and I need to fill out some form in order to obtain a valid CDcode. I have no clue what that means. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif On a positive note I was able to get the game running on my old PC running WIN 98 but even that systems CD-ROM had difficulty reading the disc initially. I really would like to get it runing on my good system though so I can run it all out.
