I just started playing custom battles this evening because I never was able to get the organ gun positioned for a bridge battle.
I set the map to a bridge battle, gave myself 99999 florins to myself ( I was defending and gave all my guys full valor, archers and siege equipment received full attack, spearman received full defense or as much as money would allow ). I set it to 3 computers rushing me and gave them each 25k to spend on their units, I wanted mine to be better because I was taking on 3 comps.
I bought 8 longbowmen, 2 culverins, 3 serpentines, and then 3 chivalric sergeants.
they made their way across the bridge and nothing says whoop ass like a completely packed huge bridge being fired about by 480 archers and 5 units of artillery firing upon them. I mean WOW that was one of the most awesome and pathetic battles Ive ever seen To watch an army of 2k or more men flee before my army which, although upgraded, is a third of the size was inspiring.
I gotta keep going with these custom battles.... maybe I'll take on the crusaders next time

I do the same when I'm in a bloodthirsty mood. 16 units of v4 longbows on a bridge vs. 5*16 units of religious fanatics, unlimited ammo. Result: I killed more than 5000, lost noone

hehe, its also fun to fight 7 AI armies entirely composed of peasants at V4 (so they stay around a while and get killed) then take the best gunpowder art you can get...and LB's http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Although peppering peasants with endless volleys from my longbowmen is fun...

...its nowhere near as satisfying as slamming varangian guardsmen foaming at the mouth into the side of a half decent unit like feudal sergeants.

Ahh, the sadistic pleasures of a 21st century computer nerd...

Eh...I have this thing with the Arquebusiers, I don't wish to download the NTW mod that much, well because MTW: VI units are better...But I'd make an army of Arquebusiers and make my main unit like...Royal knights. for each side, give each other cannons and culverines and such, and yeah... I love custom battles too...

The smell of gunpowder...the ghostly look of gunsmoke hugging the ground as if the mists of morning had just awaken...the pop of musket fire rippling through the line like popcorn over the campfire... beautiful... beautiful.

the pop from the guns has to be the best I just love that

I usually give the computer about 25k to spend on units for each comp that Im facing... I dont like facing only peasant armies because they run away most of the time and that ruins the fun so thats why I give them SOME money to buy somewhat decent units

I agree with soibean, giving the computer a mass of peasants and slaughtering them is no fun (unless you put 4 or 5 vs. 1 and all valor 4 peasants hehehehe). Hmm... now that I think about it, vs. all woodsmen/vikings/highlanders might be slightly more entertaining...

I usually give comp. the same amount of florins as I have or more, make them have more units vs. a few quality units on my side. To make it even more interesting I might throw in some allies on both sides just to see the AI reactions.

Even more interesting than guns and art... make ur whole army all naptha throwers and let the fun begin http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

P.S.
these custom battles are even funnier when you http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/barrel.gif lol

Custom Battles can be quite fun and (IMHO) useful for training.

Try this: give yourself 10K florins and give the AI a little more - 12 or 15. Then give the AI the exact same army as you choose, only spend the extra AI cash on valor or weapons or armor upgrades.

It's also a hoot to select a 2v2 and let your AI ally get killed - then try to defend against the remaining enemy - usually they end up having more than 16 units to send at you.

I like playing target practice with bombards, culverins etec by making a custom map were the enemy can't reach me. I get this high hill, while they get the lowest point on the map. I give them thousands of peasants and blow them away with my sophisticated cannon batteries. They never get near me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

IMO although its fun its not what its maded for i believe that that the custom battles are to practice your combat skills, so you will be able to defeat the enemy even when he has superior units and numbers.

yeah i guess you right sometimes (especially after losing an easy battle) it can be a great fun, but you need to be aware it destroys you, because you get to use to just charge and you forget your tactics and lose the experience

I don't think so because when you play battles that you know you are going to win, its a completely different category. You don't think you just watch, like tv.

It doesn't make you dumb like MTV though. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
