Hi all,
as a long time lurker and very much addicted (single)player, I'm thinking of buying a fine new laptop to boldly take my beloved medieval to places it has never gone before.
Now, since I could also get a laptop with widescreen / WXGA display, I was wondering if MTW will run under those screen resolutions (1280x768) as well? Or will ist just do the 'standard' 1024x768 etc. formats and stretch and scale the display accordingly?
Does anyone have experiences with running MTW under WXGA and could give me some advice here?
Thanks everybody.

Hi moonshiner_66, and welcome to the .Org.
I don't know the answer to that question - I just assumed it would stretch to accomodate screen size. I was looking (OK, drooling) at a 17 WXGA laptop yesterday. So now I want to know too. One or more of our techies will enlighten us soon.
I have a 15.4 inch Dell 8600 laptop with 1280x800 resolouton, and I personally could not find any options to run the game in widescreen resoloution. I read somewhere in the totalwar.com massageboards that it is possible, but when I asked about it, I never got a reply.
Right now, I play at 1024x768 resoloution witht he edges of the game expanding to the extremities of the screen while maintainning aspect retio. I find that 'stretching' games makes them look horrible, so I don't change the aspect ratio.

Well, I did a little research and it seems that MTW does not offer widescreen resolutions out of the box. It seems that the most you can get on a widescreen display is the standard 4:3 resolutions plus black bars left and right. On ATI cards you probably get black bars on top and bottom too as they seem to be unable to handle fixed aspect ratio scaling.
I haven't tested this myself, but there are some insightful threads on www.widescreengamingforum.com (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/phpBB2/) for all those interested.
Maybe a developer or some other knowledgeable person here could confirm this?

Hmm, can't edit my previous post.
Just a question for tsyed: What video card are you using?
I have an ATI Radeon 9600 Turbo, and it handles the aspect ratio scaling perfectly.
