The Shogun

Just herd back from EA and they have been upgrading the server. Normal service should resume shortly. I will try and get them to contact me in future, prior to any work on the server so you are all in the know.
I have just completed a rewrite of the java script that controls the drop-down navigation on www.totalwar.com. (http://www.totalwar.com.) I will be integrating this over the next few days, this should bring the site up to date with the latest browsers and solve any problems that some of you have been encountering with the navigation.
Those of you having trouble with down loads from www.totalwar.com, (http://www.totalwar.com,) this has been down to bandwidth issues. Bandwidth will be increased next Wednesday so things should be much improved.
I have been told that the Medieval demo should be made available for download on several sites as from 3 pm GMT next Wednesday. As soon as I have the addresses I will post them on the front page of www.totalwar.com (http://www.totalwar.com)

Shogun,
Ea are telling you fairy tales perhaps?
the Warlords Chatroom was not functioning, but the STW (original) Chatroom WAS functioning perfectly.
These are both housed at the same IP address,
just different port numbers.
How could the server be offline for upgrading, yet STW Chatroom still be online?
While i know you can 'cluster' an IP (assign several machines to be one IP) this is usually only done to relieve bandwidth issues,
STW and WE/MI servers, (generally less than 100 people on both combined) do not generate enough bandwidth usage to justify the expense of clustering.
tracerouting only returns one server at daphne, does not look like a clustered setup to me.
If they want to claim a software upgrade, then why was downtime so long? Testing should be done in a simulated real world environment before deployment, not in the real world.
The Chatroom Application crashed, in my opinion, and no-one was assigned to check the server, (perhaps someone is on holiday's?),
and EA are 'passing the buck' to something beyond their control or responsibility.
Fairy Tales from EA - nothing new there.

Maybe the server IP you see is the firewall at EA or maybe they are upgrading to a cluster to sustain MTW.
Maybe the server had a complete hardware upgrade and integrity test... and if it went as normal (ie SNAFU) the thing went down and took ages to reconfigure.
Who knows.
As for why the demo will be available to be downloaded on Wednesday the answer was in his post... bandwidth capacity is to be increased on Wednesday... I would say marketing would have given the go ahead on that day to release the demo, and at that point IT would decide it was a good idea to increase bandwidth for that.
Guys try and be gentlemen about this.
Also concerning the demo, keep in mind that Richie says, "I have been told" and "demo should be made available". This means the demo might become available by Wednesday, and not that it will definitely be available by that time.
