View Full Version : Hosakawa Tito hospitalized

Some of you may have noticed that Tavern moderator Hosakawa Tito, known in real life as Tim, has been uncharacteristically absent from the Tavern forums for nearly a month. Sadly, we received an email from Tim's wife last week informing us that he was stricken with a brain aneurysm. I'll let his wife's words speak for Tim. From her email last week:

Quote[/b] ]He asked me to email someone at the org to inform you all about his disappearance over the last couple of months. Tim was stricken with a brain aneurysm , and has just been moved out of intensive care a few days ago. He has a long recovery ahead of him yet, must learn to walk again, and has suffered some memory loss, but typically insists on coming home right now. Hopefully after another month or so he will be able to do so.

We received the following, more encouraging message on Monday:

Quote[/b] ]We are in the process of getting him transfered to a hospital closer to home. Currently, Tim is in a hospital that is about 2 - 2 1/2 hours drive from our home. Hopefully, he gets transfered closer to home this week, we have a choice of three hospitals, one of which is half a block from our home. Tim is determined to come home in 2-3 weeks. He's already able to stand on his own and take a few steps, though he tires easily. There is some nerve damage in his right leg that interferes with his coordination and foot control, but his recuperative powers are amazing. His memory loss is a bit troubling, but to be expected I guess. We had a nice Fathers' Day celebration for him yesterday, and one of the most gratifying things for him was being able to take a shower for the first time since he was stricken. His biggest complaint is the boredom. He's not one to watch much tv, and though he likes to read that is not enough. He spends a lot of time harping on the nurses to allow him to sit outside in the court yard or go to physical therapy. I imagine that if he is transfered to the hospital near our home he'll try to sneak out and walk or crawl home.
Once he is transfered a family friend has offered to loan him a laptop with a wireless internet hookup to help relieve his boredom.
Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers.

We asked for a mailing address for those who might want to send a card to Tim, but he preferred we not do that, so no address was given. Out of concern for Tim's privacy, we also asked for and received permission from him to share his situation with the Org patrons. We thought that the Tavern regulars who know Tim would appreciate knowing about his situation. We will keep you all informed of his status as soon as we get any updates.

You may use this thread as an electronic get well card for Tim to express any wishes, prayers, words of encouragement, etc. you feel the need to express. He just won't get this card until he transfers hospitals and gets that laptop.

I am very appreciative of this information.

The word shock used by many well-wishers describes my reaction too when I heard the news. When a forum regular disappears for a while, I always figure it is due to computer problems or real life getting too busy. In the back of my mind there is always the thought I hope they are okay but usually dismiss it as an unreasonable concern. Therefore it was quite a slap in the face to learn that those unreasonable concerns were, in fact, legitimate.

I got to know Tim pretty well when he filled in as a temporary mod in the Entrance Hall for several months a year or so ago. His confidence, support and good humour were a tremendous help in dealing with a few difficult situations we had in the Entrance Hall during his tour of duty. I sit here wishing I could return the favour to Tim now that he is facing much more serious difficulties. In reading his wife's descriptions of Tim during this initial stage of recovery, I doubt he needs a boost of confidence and support from me, but it sure would make me feel better - and not quite so helpless.

I think what I am most looking forward to hear in these coming weeks and months is a message from his wife: Tim tried to crawl home yesterday. He would have made it too but didn't have his house key. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Tim, you and your family have my prayers and wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

First and foremost I want to say respect to all the forum members here + I realize that Das Org has changed a lot and I haven't been here to see it, but it looks like there are a lot of good folks hereabouts, and I am really touched by all the love that y'all are showing Herr Tito.

I gotta say that I myself had my personal trial a few years back I received a lot of support from my pals here at Das Org, but as is often the case in tragic times one is prone to block out a lot of what happens, and actually of all the people who looked in on me during that time the only one I really remember was Tito...

....I hope this isn't revealing anything too personal, but given the circumstances I'm sure Tim would understand; when he looked in on me he told me this story about a similar time in his life where he got really really down.

The story goes that he got ragingly drunk and climbed a tree during a lightning storm and sat up there cursing out God and anyone who came to try and help him.

He told me that afterwards it really struck him profoundly that he'd survived and he wanted to live his life with a purpose. Apparently the incident really change him and it's one of the few things I remember from well wishes I received during my time of need.

The point is Tim is a guy who learned to love and appreciate the gift of life; moreover he's a true friend and a gentleman.

Surely he'll be in our thoughts and prayers.

Tito has always seemed to be fair-minded and of strong character. This was a surprise to see and I hope that he has the very best of recoveries. I think his personality comes out fairly straight-forward in his wife's comments on how he is coming home right now. That, to me, shows he will recover fully. Best wishes.

Tim is one of the best members of this forum and one of the best mods out there. I was trying for a long time to think of how to say that I missed him but I finally thought if it.

Today I was building some built in bookshelves and was wondering how to measure the distance from the leading edge of a router bit to the outside edge of the router base. The router base is resting on the jig that I am using to make sure that my routes are straight. It would make it much easier to route if I knew how far away the jig should be from my marked line where I was making the cut because I could just measure the distance perpindicular to marked line and voila place my jig. Well obviously the person to ask is Tim, because Tim knows all about this sort of thing and he's always glad to help out. He gave me some great advice on crown molding that I have used already. He's one of those guys who knows a whole lot and is always willing to share it.

I'm still waiting to have a few beers on his boat. ~
