If I sound dumb, so be it. I am old enough I can use age for an excuse. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

In the upcoming Rome Total War, I understand that there will be factions.

Will this translate into clans, as some clans were formed for the previous versions of Total War Games?

I am a little fuzzy on how all that was supposed to work, since there is no first person multiplayer in any of the games.

I am guessing that there was teamwork, yes, but you could do that withput necessarily bothering with clans.

The reason I am asking is because my board has an Egyptian theme.... click on my profile link (so I won't spam) if you'd care to see it.

I am wondering about the feasibility, desirability of setting up an Egyptian clan.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

I would like to hear from anyone who has been involved with clans previously in total war games, or who has knowledge of it that they could impart.

I hate to sound ignorant, but I know I'll need some knowledge to set this up before game release if it is doable.

Any information will be gratefully accepted

There will undoubtedly be new RTW-based clans springing up by the game's release date. And I would expect to see several Egyptian-themed ones.

I've not ever joined a TW clan, but I've played many clan members in multi-player. They're generally a great group of folks. Their websites and forums range from simple to greatly exotic, depending on $$ and coding skills. We have links to most of them on the .Org mainpage. You might consider visiting a few of them, and contacting their webmasters or clan leaders for tips on establishing, recruiting and maintaining a clan.

Personally, I enjoy when they sponsor MP tournaments, and let clan-less Ronin like me in to play. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well at least I don't feel like a complete idiot :D

I actually paid a visit to a clan site last night but had no idea what to even ask. I didn't want to seem totally ignorant.

I will make contacts and see where any of this goes.

Thanks for getting me off the hook again

I think my biggest problem is that I never played online at all. Kept me in the dark about what goes on there.

A whole different world, there, my friend. And the game is much more dynamic when playing unpredictable humans instead of just the single-player AI.

Sometimes in TW multi, new guys get intimidated by the expertise of the veteran players (usually clan members who've practiced a LOT), and occasionally there are harsh words exchanged in the pre-game chat. But it's MUCH less than with other MP games in my experience. And a lot of it is just role-playing bravado anyway...I generally let it slide off my back.

Our Jousting Fields Forum

has many instructive posts from the MP crowd. You might find it informative.

Very useful thank you.

If I read everything in there I should be done in about a year.

I am finding lots of information however, and I have also taken your suggestion and wandered away to some clansites for more input.

Somewhere it has actually dawned on me that it could be a MTW clan too They've got Egyptians

The members is what it will come down to I am sure.

THAT is what makes anything worthwhile.

The rest is dressing.

Just have to do some reasearch on what kind of organization I want to have and do some persuasive recruiting to anyone who might happen to become interested in forming an Egyptian clan.

Psychological warfare? In a game about warfare?

Thanks again,KukriKhan, for the guidance.

I believe that I have enough information now to start building a clan.

I am looking for people experienced with clans to help build an Egyptian clan (only because of my board's theme).

I am looking for those who would help me build a clan from the ground up. All levels of experience will be welcomed

Obviously I am not yet in a real recruiting mode, but I would consider creating a list of applicants if anyone is interested.

PM me at my board... you can find the link in my sigfile if you'd like to volunteer

BTW, I meant to compliment you on your board: well-organized, easy on the eyes, and a good group of folks.

Well you should create an account there and I can keep you up to date on why you should be glad you don't live in Tacoma any more. Actually it is much better now than it use to be. If you'll PM me I'll know who you are You'll get VIP treatment if not VIP status. (unless you'd want that too).

We are slowly groing.

Have yet to get any dedicated Total War folks in there.
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif . Kinda sad because I love the games so much... and no one else there has really played. That may change, and will if I can have a say in it.

Everyone is welcome.

Roman Clans http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif {Lords Of RomE)={LORE} however, a truely skilled player must be able to fight with different fighting styles, and therefore, different factions. while my clan (LORE} is a Roman clan, im sure we will play as all the factions available to us. simply for the sake of variety and improving ourselves. with that said however, it would be very cool to have clans that represent a certain faction http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

What is this on the ground? A gauntlet?

My clan is barely hatching and I get a challenge so soon?

Thanks for the reply

At work organizing now so that you may see us sooner than you think

We will field MTW units if we can get them whipped into shape before the release of RTW.
