The ai makes some stupid choices.
Ex, i was Byzantium, i had destroyed all of turkey's armies exept 2 ghulam bodyguards(the ruler), the turks had only one province. Yet the egyptians chose to remain allied with the turks, what?
I had like 4 stacks surrounding the last povince , and they allie with them?
Also i've tried to propose ceasefire to a already doomed nation and they won't accept it.
Is allaiance randomized?

Eventually you reach a point where the Ai just doesn't like you at all and all your alliances go out of the window, and the Ai factions tend to gang up on you.
For example during a Byzantine campaign, the French allied with me. Nothing wrong there I thought. At the time I was the world superpower owning everything from Kiev and Khazar down to the Middle East, Across North Africa and into Northern Spain.
Anyways the turn after I accepted their offer of Alliance. Guess what happened? The French Invaded my territories in Spain http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif
trust me they paid dearly for that
Does the game create alliances between AIs to keep the game balance?

If a faction gets to powerful you will find they get ganged up on... you probably really only notice it when it happens to you however... but the flip side is you may notice that your big opponents are getting harrased from all sides.
My thoughts on it were that the little guys band together because they know that any one of them is liable to be next.
Does that sound like stupid AI to you? Or were you going to invite all their soldiers to tea?

It would be nice if they were intelligent about it, though. After crushing the Danes for attacking me, the Poles for attacking me, even the Swiss, and eventually the Italians, the Hungarians and French suddenly invade me. But they send only small forces, the French lose, and a turn later the Hungarians lose half their territory to my counter attack.
But this is the case in all single player strategy games. I haven't seen a single game with good AI, although Galactic Civilizations is unique in that it has at least halfway decent AI. AI players in every single other strategy game are downright stupid.
mcv.
(Interestingly, my only remaining alliance is with Egypt, despite me once sending a failed crusade against them. The only time I initiated the aggression in my current game.)
I also thought it was interesting that there is always that ONE loyal partner who you regretfully must annihilate to win the game.
The alliances and how they worked always confused me at first.
The AI 'problem', if that's what it is, may just be the AI trying to do 'something' when in reality it knows it is already beaten. I guess it is trying to get you to make a major mistake.
I wouldn't expect the AI to do nothing at all; but it can't perform miracles either. If you have grown so massive that you're going to prevail... then really only your own mistakes can stop you from that point on.
Just a theory.

What about when they are completely doomed yet other nations still stayed allied to them?
