Beside being a cheap way to kill horses, can camels do anything else.
They are pretty bad at chasing down infantry, they always seemed to get wiped out by almost all infantry, even if they win cavalry usually hurt them bad.

Use them to kill horses only. If you are up against some higher valour crusader knights you will need to swamp them. And for heaven's sake don't take them out of the desert

The short answer is no.

However, when a big body of Knights of Santiago are bearing down on you, a couple of high-valor camel units are nice to have.

BEDOUIN CAMELS

At least they're cheap, especially if you're playing Egypt.

Also, they seem to produce more than their share of high-valor generals and able governors. That's been my experience, anyway.

They are slower than other cavalry and their morale is bad. This has some serious consequences.

If the camels don't beat the horse unit they are attacking, they will rout and get massacred because they are too slow to get away.

Keep high valor camels but consider disbanding or retraining low-valor ones to get them some morale upgrades after the opening moves.

Camels are very vulnerable to missiles and can't get away from foot archers as well as faster cav. Be careful with them.

The combination of Saracen Infantry in the front and camel archers behind is a good one for trapping kings and wiping out royal bodyguard units, especially if you add some desert archers to the mix.

BERBER CAMELS

Think of them as cavalry archers who don't have to worry about getting charged by hobilars.

Their melee is worse than Bedouins, but I find Berbers more useful anyway. They can cause casualties to spears, for instance. Be sure to get that valor bonus for them in Morocco, though.

in my experience camels are easier to rally, but their that slow the battles finished by the time they return

Somebody should mod an elite Bedouin Raider camel unit. It should be a unit of 20 with stats similar to Royal Knights, sans the armor.

Hey that's a good idea

A bit unrealistic though, a camel with irresistable charge?? Plus camels are supposed to be desert units and hence wear as little armour as possible.

There is http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif , Download Kevlritea mod, it's spell something like that. There's a unit call African Camel unit or something, it's not royal unit strong, but a pretty good frontal charge medium cavalry unit. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/medievalcheers.gif
