Over at legiontotalwar.com (http://www.legiontotalwar.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4560). Those are only the playable factions... hmm... perhaps we don't have to unlock after all. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif

From what I understand unlocking is still in.

Well, I can identify-
Three Roman Houses
Gauls
Germanians
Carthage
Seleucids
Egypt
I can't figure out who the axe is and who the "lightning" is.
"Arcade-style Battles" is an option? What the hell does that mean?
I like the custom victory conditions.

well, aren't they the ones specified below the screenshot, in the same order ? cause that's what it looks like to me.

I thought that the Germanians were the boar?
I knew the factions were listed, but I didn't think they were in order. I couldn't put the factions to the flags.

Macedonia was the labda...

I already posted my opinion on the germanic symbol in the legion thread, suffice it to say that I consider it very disapointing.
"Why is the symbol for Germania a double bladed axe (something which no German, or anyone really, in this time period would have wielded)?
It should be an Oak tree (for god Tiwaz) or maybe a stag which was a very important Germanic symbol or at least some kind of animal or natural object. Its not like there isn't any evidence for Germanic standards.
My vote would be for simple stag like silhouette as seen at the top of the sutton hoo sceptre (or whatever it is). Of which the Cherusci tribe where named after (Herut being stag I believe)."

There is a standard with a stag- It's the Gauls. r the Britons. I forget.
The runic symbol for Tiwaz would be good too, its basically an arrow pointing upwards.

It's less than viking invasion, but for MTW I think they were only 12
English
French
Italians
Spanish
Alamohavs
Egyptians
Turks
Byzantines
Poles
Germans
Danes
Russians(sometimes)
the thing i like is on left side of screen u can pick ur campaign difficulty but u can also pick battle difficulty.......so if ur better at one or the other u just raise that level
The difficulty picking is good, but I am really disappointed with the number of playable factions.
Maybe this means that other factions will not be, like in MTW, unplayable and mods will only allow you to play with them, but without having stuff like specific faction units or a faction description. Maybe what it means is that we will have to "unlock" other factions as it was said before, so progressively will have more and more factions to play until we reach the list which we have seen in the first screenshot.
And yes - I also don't understand why an axe is a symbol for germans http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
is it just me or have i seen this before here?

Is that it? Good lord, we know they messed everything up, but you'd think you'd still be able to play as a bunch of factions Argg http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-argue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-furious3.gif
And where's Scythia?

I have to second Jones21 on being happy with the difficulty settings.
But they are moving toward making us play mission based games. Mission based aren't true strategy.
Unlockable battles and campaigns are fine. maybe unlockable specials. But they should open the game up so we can mess around. Play as we please.
I still haven't played as Novgorod or Danes or Italians...in MTW

And where's Scythia?
scythia is non-playable
but you will be able to play all these factions online like scythia etc. , and i spend most my time online so thats ok and plus look how easy it was to mod factions into the game on MTW and RTW is suppose to be easier to mod.......so not that bad

But the point is why the hell make the other factions unplayable? It's just dumb. If you are going to err, you may as well do it on the side of too many factions rather than too few.
Games like Hearts of Iron and Crusader Kings show us that you can never have too many playable nations.
ya i see what you mean whats the point of not adding them when they're already in the game and you could mod them easily why not save us the proplems and just put them in game so we can decide if we want to play as them or not , not let CA dedide if we should play as them....but thats what we've come to expect http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

They will propably make them available in the expansion heh, cheap new feature to the game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

Jones, you miss the point. Why should we have to do it, when we already have to clean up so many of their idiotic decissions? Oh, and Basileus, that would be keeping in with the current level of CA, in my opinion. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ceasarno.gif
I understood Jones' post differently. He's saying that if something is already in the game, why would CA disable it and force us to have to waste time enabling it. That's something I agree with. It really doesn't make sense.
If you look at other games, the unlockables mostly are
a)cheat codes
b)easter eags
c)factions and characters that are way too powerful (mostly bosses)
d)factions and characters that are "joke" and not appropriate with the setting of the game
I really don't see any of those criteria applying to the other factions.

And where's Scythia?
"Skythia" ceased to exist when the Royal Skythians were supplanted by the Sarmatian tribes in c.300 BC.
Sarmatia, I hope, is there.
Oh God, please make Macedonia playable... it wasn't there in the latest movie (which might be a quirk in Gamestar's version, or related to faction unlocking)... of course that's probably a version of the game that's a bit outdated.
Regardless, this game will probably be to me as WarCraft III was. As feature after feature got canned, or toned down, I feared it would be little more than an updated, 3D version of WarCraft II. Well, since it isn't, I expect RTW not to be either
