The Original STW Naginata are back!

There is a new download available from the Org's recent files list,
called Nagi-Image-Set_v1.4

this brings back my beloved Naginata from STW(original edition) complete with flashy weapons and fighting style.
Definately recommended!

Why did they change them in the first place?

STW was a little ahead of it's time when it came to graphics, the devlopers had high end graphics capable machine available to them, most of us don't, so a 16MB video card was often struggling to display all images correctly.

I have an old savage 16MB card here in my web server, it won't run old shoggy without several errors creeping in (flashing battle flags, all units use one mon - things like that.)
So for Warlords they reduced the load on CPU and Video by combining some image sets, this also alllowed them to increase the number of units available without significant extra load.
For example the old 16MB savage card will run Warlords perfectly, but not the original STW.

The Replacement Naginata Image set doesn't change multi-unit bifs,
It simply replaces some of the Yari Sam in the bif file with Naginata, and naturally changes some of the text files that control which Image from the bif file to display for a given situation.
It is a workable compromise, Considering most of us are too busy looking at the overall situation during battle, rather than closely watching the men fight and die, I'd rather be able to distinguish my men easily.

The download also changes the image seen during unit selection and training, As well as the Image displayed on the Battle Cards (Unit Status cards displayed along the bottom of the screen during battle)

There is a restore set included in the download, allowing you to quickly and easily switch back to the old style if thats what you prefer.

It has been tested on Warlords Editions, and Mongol Invasion Expansion edtions.

The knowledge we gleaned during construction and testing of this modification will allow anyone to 'create' new Images sets for Warlords with a little imagination and creativity.
