Greetings all,
I just payed the highest bribe ever and was curious what you people pay. I was fighting the almos and after loosing two provinces they rebelled. I looked around and saw a single Ghulam bodyguard in Valencia with 7 command - short on generals I thought that he would be a nice addition and moved an emmisary there (I didn t bother to check stats) - next turn the Aragonese reappear there and I said goodbye to my future general - next turn - hes still there - the Aragonese gone http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif
So I checked him out: Argumentative, Magnificient Builder, Utterly Fearless, Skilled last stand, Natural Born Kiler and Skiled defender http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-surprised.gif
So I bribed - one single man (not unit) - for whooping 20K http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif but I guess he s worth it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ceasaryes.gif

Wow, what was his valour in battle with all those bonuses added on? Must be the MTW equivelant of a Kensai. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

My highest bribe was a Golden Hoared general with over 800 men and they were mostly the heavy calv. Cost me over 50,000 considering his loyalty was not all that great but anyway i was the Italians so i had the money due to trade (somewhere over 600,000 florins).
wow, my bribes never went over 10k
I'm always economy conscious. I don't splurge even though I often have 2 million+florins in the bank when High rolls around.
i have spent in excess of 100,000 florins.
because i needed to win and i couldn't get the troops there in time to force victory.
thanks, dessa
I have never successfully bribed a unit. I find the price too high, even when bribing rebels. In the time it takes me to earn enough money for the bribe I could train a lot more troops than I get from the bribe. Sure you can get some good generals that way but since training a 4-star general is easy and you can add 2 more stars through titles I just skip the bribes altogether.
I've gone through with a single bribe, but el Cid got so offended that he killed my emissary.

I reckon 20K for a general like that is a bargain, but it might be difficult to find the money early on in a campaign - and I guess it was early from the fact the Aragonese were still there. If you look at it as an investment, this guy is going to conquer more provinces and with fewer troops - just watch he doesn't pick up any worrying vices
Anyone has ever bribed another faction's prince after he rebelled against his king?
I successfully bribed one before. A 5 star Almo prince. I was Eggy. He was cheap, 8k, cause he was already a rebel when I tried to bribe.
I then used him to destroy the Almo. A few turns later he started a rebellion against me and gained back the almo territories for himself http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
As the polish I often start with a bribe - preferably at Prussia. This netted me a 4* general crossbow-unit... Nice since the poles don't get many good generals.
As spain I often bribe el cid.

i'll try & bribe the welsh (long-bowmen 180 advantage)over the French which is nice http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif

i don't think i've ever bribed any1...lol, i just figure it's easier to kill 'em urself, besides, i'm not good at mtw economics, i usually don't make many florins, and the 1's i do go into buildings/big armies. oh well, i conquer a lot. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/medievalcheers.gif
200,000-ish is the highest I can remember off hand.
When the AI unexpectedly jumps into a badly defended province then bribing is often the easiest way to sort the problem. Plus you end up with a large army that you can march into the territory of the faction that just attacked you.
Bribed a Novgorod boyar of the old princes line, no longer an heir, valor 21, he was the best buy I've ever made, (with 1 other boyar, & 1 spear @150K).

Bribe the Welsh for an early high tech advantage.
El Cid for a good general.
A stack on a far away provience that is a trade magnet... Sweden, Antioch, Florence, Constinapole, Vienna.
A mongol stack so surrounded by mongols... nothing better then to use a single emissary to halve the mongol stacks in a province... think about it two stacks gone and your borders don't get weakened.

You are right - early in a campaign its hard but I played from early on and the bribe happened around 1240 - enough time for me to earn enough to afford it (btw - I played the Danes not the Spanish). Other than the bribe related vice he hasn t picked up anything yet and after getting Castille he s an eightstar and true as a dog http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif I guess the vices will come when I reach the 40% mark.

I once bribed an ex-prince of the Byzantines, he was an 8 star general with skilled attacker and defender. He cost around 80k florins. Expensive but i just gave him a title an was a 9 star general, so i think it was worth it..

I've spent about 90,000 (i think) on a 8* General. I think he also belonged to the royal family cos he was a royal knight unit (the one catholic kings are).

I think that about 100k would be correct. I only bribe units with a lot of people on them. I once bribed this golden horde general with almost all his troops as goldenhorde heavycav now that's worth it.
Or when the generals have low loyalty and many troops, i bribe right away
Wouldn't it be awsome if you could bribe in the middle of a battle?
It would cause total chaos in enemy units if suddenly, their own comrades would attack them
That would be devastatingly effective http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
