i'm only trying to stop the discussion about this topic or at least let it become less dominating in the forums/foyer. so if you want you can (and i'm sure many of you already have) share your thoughts with me and the rest of our community.

here are is my argument

Since (almost) all of us know and admit that the system is flawed there is no use in looking at the scores; the score of a player does not reflect his true skill (I can hear you think DUH! but nonetheless i put it down here http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif)
Ppl who try to manipulate their honor ultimately want other (mostly the best) players to think they are good, they think that their score DOES reflect their skills. we know that respect is gained by showing skill and sportmanship and ultimately those manipulaters will too.
Next to this there are the so-called "unfair armies" discussions. think of urself what you prefer: a walkover with some superashis so you can get those points where no one really cares about or a nice and challenging game.
The only reason (manipulating) honour can irritate me is that being dropped for me means a waste of my free time in the foyer. i'd rather play a nice and challenging game instead.

Get rid of the entire "system".

No.... honour system needs adjusting.
If all games r friendly many will leave as its a challenge to many to get into the top 100/10 or be number 1 http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
We shall see if any changes r in MTW?

ok but since this system will still excist i only make my point why not to argue about this system anymore (although it will always be an topic sadly enough)

People are still gonna argue about it... although I too am clueless as to why anyone pays any attention to it. Personally I ve found that by sticking to friendlies, you avoid the whole running up cliff-faces in the snow; charging whole armies across a footbridge; attacking castles; timed battles; escapers; and the one with the sixteen ninja (which deserves some credit IMO http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif). At the end of the day, if peeps wanna honour hunt, let em, but I ain't gonna have my time wasted by them. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I used to play STW their was no honour next to people's names there were as many people online
in those days as there is now,.
and those stupid people who believed it was important had to go to a Web page
to see how much honour they had, .
no one really cared how much honour people had and there was little prestige to being in the top 100,
weeded Not have people camping in castles and on bridges
people did play Castle and bridge games but you could have fun and play any map you felt like
my opinion the honours system stinks

These things mean a lot to some ppl, it is the reason we have Champions, World No1's etc. Unfortunately through striving to be the best a lot lose sight of the reason they started. Enjoyment. Fun.
It is inevitable with any form of competition that ppl will cheat. The only way to counter this is to either do away with the honour system or improve it. I would not advocate its removal as I feel it is important to some and I feel we should all have a choice. Personally I have never played a comp but that is my choice.
I would attempt to take a bridge or castle or anything for that matter in a fun battle, I have. In a comp? Forget it.
So by chasing honour points I feel a big part of the game disappears. The variety.
Shogun is something I do for recreation, to get away from stress the last thing I need is more stress in the foyer or on the battlefield...........Orda

Comp games were my passion when they were worth the work. As my friend and ex clan-m8 Ghost pointed out on old STW the honour points weren't that important because one would have to be bothered to go checking the points on the site and weren't really there to boast about. Getting to Top 100 was a good challenge...and a very nice satisfaction because a Top 100 player was a respected and strong player.

On MI having high honour and being in the Top 100 has become more of a stigma rather than a praise because quite all Top 100 players play always on the same map, army and koku. So why even bothering about it? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif I have seen many old clans like Wolves, Rage and Kenchi that many of their members don't bother honour-hunting anymore...annoying to see gun monkey high-honour clans identifying themselves as the one of the best/ best clan ...even after a good trashing by old skoolers...

the funny thing about the honor sytem, is that we all know who the "real" good players are http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Those of you who played STW back in the day, must remember all the bantering back and forth about "whats your honour". People wouldn't play others if their honour wasn't high enough, or what ever. Whether it's posted in the lobby or not, people will still be asking each other. When I made the jump to WE, and got blasted for the first 3 months (the nuances took awhile to sink in) people would see my honour and comment on it.
This ticked me off, I didn't consider myself a bad player, I had my high and lows, but when someone I didn't know or play with insulted me about it, I was Pi$$ed. Why have any ranking? Word of mouth will spread who the top players are, just like your local tough guy has a rep without any ranking.

One final comment. If I had been a newbie to WE/MI I might have never come back online after that id10t insulted me about my honour. We may have lost valuable members of the community in this manner.

Can't wait for MTW.

Don't think the system is flawed, but that it can be taken advantage of. No matter what system is used, someone will find a way. The fortunate thing is that the community seems to know who has earned their stripes, and who bought theirs....

Heres a sign of the times on players-

I used 3 guns in a battle and got called old fashioned. My number is a penalty rather than a joy.
