I agree with you m8!

I love MI/STW.
I love this community.
I love samurai warfare and history.

In my opinion it's a step backward from the bushido to the smelly dark ages and this makes me sad.

If we want the community to live we'de better move to MTW as soon as it comes out as the developers will focus on it and that game is the future of Total War not MI or STW that never go over 40 players each night while other many years old RTS like Starcraft and Diablo have thousands playing it everyday.

What would be nice is if Creative Assembly, Dreamtime, Activision remade WE/MI as an add-on to MTW which would incorporate all the improvements of MTW. This would certainly be possible because Dreamtime owns the copyrights to both games.

Krast encourages all Shoggy players to do their best to help out the new MTW players when they arrive.

This is a rare opportunity for us to make a larger and, hopefully, better community for all of us.

This is our last and best chance.

If you love your MI and STW, then when MTW is released, we need to go online and make the experience ENJOYABLE for the newbies.

The online M:TW community we create in the beginning will set the pace. If we foster comraderie and fun, then it will grow - if we leave it to the Honor Bandits that take advantage of every new player ... well... need I go on?

It's up to us.

i agree with puzz3d
it would be great to have a world totalwar
Europe, middle east and far east all roled into one
that would make the ultimate game
they already made far east and medieval deals with europe and middle east
Other great civilisations will appear
and i think that the success of online communties have a direct effect on the success of sales
failing to concentrate on online communities
would lead to failure of the game

that reminds me will the forum change name?

it's interesting to me to note that new players ARE still coming in to stw/we/mi and to the forums. i'm guessing this is partially due to those games hitting the bargain bins and partially due to m:tw being advertised better and that that stirs an interest in stw/we/mi as well.

as a result of the above, you may actually see an increase in the foyer as time rolls on. certainly a lot of us are going to head immediately into the m:tw servers when it comes out, but oddly all this talk of m:tw has recently had me playing we/mi again. one tends to spur interest in the other. initially there will no doubt be an exodus from we/mi, but you 'may' also see an increase there after the initial shine rubs off m:tw.

and yuuki's suggestions spur my imagination in another direction. besides the possible retro-fitting of stw/we/mi, and taking into account m:tw's improvements, and taking into account technologies available, wouldnt it be interesting to have a growing, massive online world, in which one could play not only the tactical, but the strategic side of these games.

imagine each new game CA develops being added on to an existing online world. north africa, the new world, south america and so on. imagine an on-going massive campaign where you could come and go, make economic, strategic, trade, diplomatic and religious decisions and intracacies and all of this gets carried out against other players and an intelligent ai. real time battles could be fought, and if you werent present the ai could take over or things could be simply auto-calculated. the one big difference would be that this would carry on thru time, being a real time strat game rather than the current turn-based method.

one could be alexander the great, bent on world conquest, or a dutch trading nation, or the papal states determined to bring their religion to everyone else. the possibilities are quite interesting.

ok, so for the time being, this is a pipe dream. it would also have to be a pay to play game. it would also have to be played on dedicated servers, with the end-user receiving only a front end program.

the barriers are many to this sort of thing, but it might be an interesting thing to start thinking about.

That really sounds like a clan thing for the foreseeable future though, and it's debatable whether Shogun can shovel a sufficiently large audience for its development. What's the girl/boy ratio for Shogun?

Sounds great Kraellin but that would be a full time job. I get nagged enough now and I'm only fighting battles.
To be truthful I don't know if I could stand the strain hehe.

makes me think of that John Lennon song...
Did any of the things in the song come true? I think the same will happen here. Ah well, one can always dream. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

One other thing my fellow STW brothers, we will need to be mindful of the hard lessons learn't in the STW community regarding codes of conduct.
Over the years, the community here has grown reasonable close, intelligent, encouraging and helpful.
I'd like to believe that this will never change but the reality is that with the new wave of fans, it's likely we'll have a few malcontents amongst them.

We just need to be vigilant and discourage the "F** You...F** (insert race here)..F** this sucks..where's the Super Nion Plasma rifles".

Hopefully MTW will be sufficiently moddable that we can reproduce STW within it.

its not getting old ya know,it is still the best wargame out(until mtw arrives)so it will still be second on the strategy charts(mtw being first).....that made you happy?

Momotaro Asakura

Yeah I can feel for the players who really have an interest in Japanese warfare/history/characters etc and who have supported STW with passion and honor. In the past I have been one of them and while it is sad to see the game shift to Europe, it was predictable. What ever the game, it is just a medium for the community to enjoy and have fun. We are lucky to have such a well knit group here and yes there will be an onslaught newbies as there was when both STW and MI came out. I think we will weather the storm and come out the other side. As for MTW, well I think we are lucky that CA has stuck with the Total War game concept as if they hadn`t this community would have become smaller & smaller without any new product extentions to the theme.
No use looking back, the only direction is forward!

Passion and honor.......Most important,But MI will only die if u dont ply it after MTW release.

So its up too u 2 keep it alive and others of course.

maybe we could desinate certain players to be on a welcomeing committee(wonders if that sounds cheesy) for the new players as they come in.

Well I wish I could be more part of this community, but since there is currently a major problem for some newbies to be able to register, this is impacting the new growth for newbies to play online.

If they where clever they would resolve these problems so that these newbies such as myself would have more faith in there products because as it is now I seriouse doubt I would be will to make the investment.

(see tech support for posting by myself if your interested in this dilemma)

you sound like a really nice bunch, wish I could contribute something more positive, but I has not been my experience at this point
