STW --> STW mongol invasion

Hello there --

I bought STW from a seller on eBay as sort of a "what the hell" purchase -- I am a big Kurosawa fan and I heard the game was modeled to some degree on his filmmaking and also on the precepts of Sun Tzu. So I went ahead and snatched a copy off of eBay for a very low price.

The copy I bought is the *original* STW with no frills or add-ons (i.e. no mongol invasion, warlord edition, etc., whatever). I realize now that this is probably why the game could be bought for so little money.

Now that I've learned a little bit about STW and it's improvements, add-ons, etc., I feel kind of deprived (in that I bought the basic boring one when for not that much more $ I could have bought the cool flashy one). I don't see the Mongol Invasion upgrade anywhere in stores (it's way old I guess), just the Warlord Edition.

Basically, my question is, am I going to have to buy the same game twice just because I didn't know about the Warlord Edition, or is there some way I can upgrade my version of STW to be compatible with the MI/WE versions?

the reason why mongol invasion is not on the shevles is because all the ppl that had the original shogun bought it as soon as it came out,then warlord edition came out soon after.i advise you to keep the original and buy warlord too,so if pne gets scracted you could change it.or if you like haveing every game of the total war series

Or look second-hand of course. I got mine that way because I was pissed about the 1.13 patch that never was.

EB in Australia has Shogun(original), Mongol Invasion Expansion and Warlords all on the shelves...
(not always all in all stores, but a simple round robin of phone calls will track them all down)

Harvey Norman has them too!

yeah, where i live (washington dc) there's usually only the warlord edition, if that.

The Mongol Invasion add-on was never sold in stores here in the USA. You had to order it from Electronic Arts. I think it was $20. You might find Warlords Edition fairly cheap now. It origially listed for $40. The STW in Warlords or after installing Mongol Invasion is not exactly the same as the original STW so you would have two slightly different versions of STW if you bought Warlords.

what FasT says is true...i didn't mean it that way.

by no means do i find STW "boring." in fact, now that i look at it, all available evidence seems to point to exactly the contrary. ask my friends and family -- they'll tell you how far i've fallen. careful around my siblings, though -- three weeks of computer-deprivation have left them hostile and angry, and i fear they may soon resort to violence in their efforts to pry me away from the PC.

ahhhhh, if only they could understand. they just don't know what it's like to have to manage an epic campaign to conquer 16th century japan. they don't realize that to embark on an undertaking of this magnitude, certain things are bound to be neglected. you'd have to be crazy to waste your time worrying about sleep or personal hygiene or contact with other humans when the treacherous forces of lord usuegi are mounting a bloody campaign to eliminate your clan from existence! i'm sitting here at the computer, making life-or-death decisions about the fate of my clan, and here are these people, constantly coming in and whining about this and that, saying i can't keep forgetting about meals or that if i continue refusing to shower, they're going to have me fumigated or something.

honestly, sometimes i can't which of my two enemies is the tougher -- the vicious warlords who are out to kill me or the relentless bother from people who just don't understand what it means to have priorities.
