Game Over!!!

I tried looking for the date gunpowder was discovered in the game but couldn't find it. What date is it discovered...I love shooting up enemy armies with demi-culverines, although serpentines are much more fun.

I'm fairly sure it's 1259.

It's 1259, but you can't create gunpowder buildings until 1260.

But you can hire some organ guns and other gunpowder units as Mercs a few years before the Gunpowder event... keep checking those inns and you'll see em.

I'd love to try out the organ gun but I don't have VI. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

In version 1.1 you can only build gunpowder units in late (1320) despite that you can build the gunpowder buildings.

It's easily modded though, with one side effect (mentioned by the Emperor).

1270, and my gunpowder even't hasn't happened yet. I am not impressed. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-furious3.gif

really, maybe you bypassed the event by dismissing the dialog box by hitting spacebar.

merc guns are always available in high onwards. organ guns are a particular steal as it's pretty difficult to build to and the upkeep is dirt cheap anyhow.

So that's why I can't build cogs in Venice despite having all the prereq buildings? https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif Grrr - I want deepwater ships I'm the greatest trading nation in Europe and I can't build deepwater ships

Can someone point me at the rqd mod and The Emperor's side effect?

You can't get deep water ships as the Italians, thier better ships are War Galley and Gun Galley, none of them is deep water. It's probably a balance reason.
You can mod it in though, but I'm not sure if you can give a shore water ship, deep water cababilities (possibly by giving the ship higher range?, but I haven't tested it), but you can give the Italians a deep water ship by adding their name in the faction association column for the unit.

And for the aviability to build gunpowder units earlier is to mod it so instead of "late" it stands "high, late". The side effekt is that you can get gunpowder mercs from 1205.

It's recommended to download the Gnome Editor for easier modding and do a backup copy before modding.

Ah Cheers, Ironside. I'm sure I checked the units/prereq chart and saw nothing banning the Italians from cogs (the mainstays of trade in C14th Venice, of course...). But, I guess the chart is known to be broken.

Italians, Sicilians, and Byz share common ship line.

muslims have the ship line.

the rest of the catholic and russians share a ship line.

cogs are in the mainstream catholic line.

Yup, the Italians can build war-galleys and gun-galleys (which are not deep-water) same as byzantines: no cogs or carracks. This is historically correct: the Italian fleet was not known for much military provess in the medieval ages (or even after that).

Basically, by the XV century, it should be the catholic fleets (followed by Russians in a few hundred years; Peter the Great was learning western ship building in Holland) dominating the waters all around the world. The Turks should have their own fleet line though: separate from the rest of the muslims: powerful in the black sea and the meditarranean but not able to do much beyond that.

I don't know. the baggalas are really advanced in early but the muslims don't really get much (only booms) suposedly the decline of some muslim power such as almos?

Kristaps

well, there was essentially no real muslim power (militarily or scientifically advanced) in the world besides the ottomans after the XV century... and even the ottomans went into a gradual decline, after their defeat at the mouth of the gulf of patras off lepanto, greece, in 1571. The battle took place between the fleet of the holy league under the command of john of austria and the ottoman fleet under the command of uluē ali pasha. The turkish fleet got practically wiped out. thus, the game is actually historically correct in limiting the muslim sea-faring ability in the later stages of the campaign.

that's true.

that kinda sucks for game play though. I would like some ships beyond booms.

well, as far as the game play in naval battles goes, it's quite sufficient to produce hordes of the low-level boats... i have yet to see the AI produce anything beyond a caravel (the byzantines are an exception: i've seen their war galleys and gun galleys quite a few times).

yeah, I frankly spam cheapest ships I can get and use sacrifice the peasant method but I want some ship that is bigger and cooler than the boom.

maybe I'll mod one in.
