View Full Version : Creative Assembly What's "arcade mode"?
I've come across a couple of references to "arcade mode" in RTW. Is this an option that CA have mentioned - if so, what did they say about it and where did they say it? Or is it just something tongue-in-cheek? Thanks for any advice

I suspect it relates to the flaming arrows and exploding siege projectiles and other fancy stuff... At least I hope so http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
In a recent screenshot of the gamestar video, it shows in the campaign start screen (choosing faction ect) an option for "arcade mode". Its all speculation after that.
I love speculating...
Maybe it's unlimitid arrows, no unit fatigue, wacky units (head hurlers/pigs).
Just a thought (and a hope).

I sure hope there are 2 settings -- one with all the crap units, the other with nearly historically correct units/ factions. It would render all my whining absolutely mute, and I'd be sincerely happy to be wrong about all I've ever said. I'd be the first to offer an apology post and happily do it
It seems, at least on the face of things, that it would be easy to have two different sets of units/faction lists and let peeps switch between them as an option.
I can only hope their is "historic" mode with a correct Ptolemaic Egyptian & barbarian line-up. Preferably with the correct unit names. Heck, implementing even half of Psycho's Barbarian units list would be friggin awesome.

Yep. Lets hope that if this Arcade mode is not a joke that it IS a version will all the crappy units and not a version with EVEN MORE crappy units... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
I agree with those who suspect that any arcade mode, if present, will toggle the more radical special effects such as constant fire archers, napalm artillery and irradiated swine. It could suspend moral and fatigue too but I would prefer those to be separate switches to allow many configurations for all sorts of players.
I doubt if unit graphics will be variable. My money is on one set of skins for everybody.
I think its just about camera/interface controls.
A bunch of the E3 coverage mentioned the ability to toggle between the normal TW camera style and a new 'arcade' (isometric?) style a-la C&C etc.
Though like everyone else, I hope its 'classic'=realistic units vs 'arcade'=bushistic units

I noticed that on the screenie too. We can only hope. Or, we can hope CA drops by to explain. Hah, yeah right. I crack myself up.

shingenmitch2 is getting my hopes up, only to have them dashed against the jagged rocks of reality http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
I remember this being mentioned in a previous article/interview some months ago. If I recall correctly, I believe Arcade Mode refers to you being able to fight your battles from your General's viewpoint. That is, it would be like watching the battle from a first-person viewpoint (like Doom and other first-person shooter games). In practical terms, one of the effects of Arcade Mode would be that the units you can command will probably be limited to the ones your general can actually see. In other words, Arcade Mode will be for those players who like that extra bit of realism. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
If anyone has seen information that contradicts what I said, however, please let me know. I could certainly still be wrong, as it's been a while since I read that article/interview/whatever.

Hello, do I detect a note of sarcasm in one or two posts here? Surely not. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
"Arcade mode" is one check box that allows the player - at a single click - to turn off all the fatigue, ammo restrictions and morale "stuff". And that's all.
Oooh, you lot, you get all excited and a-flutter sometimes... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thanks for clearing that up Captain Fishpants. Always good to see the CA shield pop up once in a while so that we know that your office isn“t razed by an earthquake or something http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif .
I remember from one preview PC gamer Sweden that the controls in RTW can be played as in the original games and in "click and drag a square mode" Is this correct? Will we able to have two different control systems?
Yeah - thanks to the captain for setting the record straight.
Too bad you can't toggle those silly units out, but I'm sure there will be a way to do it manually in the files.

Thanks to the CA.
Although it was a bit anticlimatic...
Martok had a cool idea. I often limit myself to a nearly level perspective in battle just to "see"
I'm sure the online modders will be ready to work with unlocking factions artificially, and un-hatting the egyption spears.
