I haven't purchased VI yet and wanted to know exactly what the expansion pack did for MTW. Is it a new game or/and does it just add new units for MTW. Is it worth the $25 or not? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif

I can surely you can get it for less than 25$, congrats you have been screwed http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/barrel.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/medievalcheers.gif

As for all of the things it adds to the game, all i can say it is a lot, IT'S WORTH IT...i won't go into details, since it will make me drool for VI...i guess i am the only person on these forums who doesn't have it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif ....i hate my country http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

New units, more playable factions for MTW.
New game (the VI part) with new units, new tech tree, and new map. I find playing the Vikings very satisfying (in a bloodlust sort of way),and I can finish a game in a much shorter time.

Yeah, I'd definately say it was worth it, although you could find it cheaper than that. There's a pre-battle screen that allows you to choose what reinforcement order you want and save the game before each battle (I'm not sure if this was in original MTW or not, I brought both at the same time). There's a whole new map (an expanded map of the British Isles) and many new units. I think there could be some bug fixes or something too. There's 11 new playable factions, and I think something like 25 new units (not sure about this number). You can also pour boiling oil from castle gates and use flaming arrows with archers.

I find the VI campaign to be more of a historically fulfilling experience: I guess it's a LITTLE closer to reality for one faction in that timeframe and setting to conquer most of the British Isles than it is for one faction in the MTW timeframe to conquer most of Europe. Plus the portraits just seem more "medieval" in the VI campaign than the MTW one.

Plus I like and am much more familiar with English history than overall European medieval history

I've just checked, and I was wrong about the units (29 new units) and it's the catapults that apparently can fire flaming missiles at buildings and wooden walls, not archers. (I can't get my catapults to do that. It's supposed to happen automatically, but... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif )

i guess it's too late to tell you that "The Battle Collection" has both MTW and VI and it's some USD $29.99, or so (anyway, significantly cheaper than if you bought them separately). Amazon (US, UK) sell it, also EB Games. I don't know who else.

Is the new reinforcement que implemented in MTW or just the new "VI" game? If so I'll go and buy the expansion pack this weekend for $14, just checked and my original $25 was off. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif The 'new' reinforcement thing I saw screenshots of seemed a heck of a lot better than the 'other' way.
Are there 29 new units added to MTW or just a couple i.e, swabian swordsmen, huscarles. Also are the new factions that have been mentioned available in MTW or just the VI thing?

The reinforcements isn't implemented into regular MTW. If you get VI download the patch so the reinforcements are added in the order selected.

I don't think the 29 new units include those in the Viking campaign though, most Viking units are buildable in Early. I think the Viking campaign (it's been 6 months since I've played it) has 8 different factions.

Vikings
Saxons
Mercians
Picts
Scots
Irish
Welsh
Northumbrians

Aragon, Hungary and, Sicily become available in the MTW campaign.

edit: faction list

Most of these awesome mods require VI, and its much worth it.

Yes, the re-inforcement pre-battle screen appears in the new VI period and the "old" MTW period when you install VI. Very useful for those big battles.
There are several new units for the MTW period included in that 29, but I think some of them are only for the VI bit. (not really sure-I haven't played the VI bit of my game yet) Eight factions are VI only, three of them are for the MTW bit.

Whether you get VI depends on how much you like MTW. If you think it's a great game, buy it. If you think it's merely good, don't bother. It's more of the same. You'll appreciate the refinements to the existing campaigns if you are a fan, otherwise you probably won't notice. If you are a fan, you'll probably want to try out some of the eight VI campaigns - they are varied and fun. If you do buy it, be sure to patch it though - it comes with a stinker of a bug (all kings die age 56).

Its definatly worth it. The new pre-battle is so much better.

As Simon Appleton you will need to get the patch so that your kings don't die at 56 which is very annoying and has led to me sacrificing my kings many a time before i got the patch cos they were going to die.

I have VI installed and my kings all live beyond 56 I haven't patched it at all.
Does the VI that comes with the Battle Collection (MTW + VI together) already have the patch?

The original MTW (MTW 1.0) had lots of bugs.
Then there is the 1.1 patch which among other things fixes the 56 year old king death.
Then there is VI, which is actually MTW 2.0.
VI also has a patch, 2.01, but I believe it is already included in most (if not all) VI expansion packs.

What it all comes down to is that if you go today and buy MTW +VI, you'll have 2.01, which contains all the patches and fixes.

archers can fire flaming projectiles as well, i love seeing 60 smoke trails sailing towards the enemy walls. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It's way better. Not to mention, mods only work on VI.

Pretty much essential for multi-player also (well, it is in my opinion).
