Hello to all:
I am stuck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif,... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif
I know someone has asked this before but I must have not payed attention to the answer...
I have many troops on the England (on the main island) but I can't get them off of it. I want to attack Ireland or transport some off to the mainland but I can't right now. Is there a reason why I cannot?
Thank you in advance friends in MTW...
Lord DeVeau

Do you have a port in England and a ship connecting you to Ireland or Europe?

Hi Lord DV,
To move to the Continent:
You can move your troops/armies to Normandy atleast you should be able to - there is a line/link betwen Wessex and Normandy. This means you can just move armies from the former to the latter without the aid of ships
To move to Ireland:
This is what you need to do. First you need to build a port in Wales. Then you need to build a ship - a caravel or barque and place it in the Irish Sea - or whatever the sea between Ireland and Great Britain is called. You can build this ship anywhere and move it to that sea. Finally you need to ensure there are no ships in the same sea from factions you are at war with. The only ships that are there (if there are any) should be from neutral or allied factions. If there are enemy vessels you need to remove them by attacking them or waiting to see if they move. So once you have:
A port in Wales
A ship in the Irish sea
A neutral or friendly Irish sea
simply move your army piece onto the emerald isle.
In general to move armies over water there must be a sea route connecting your province to the target province, a port in your province and the route must be completely free of enemy ships.
A word of warning - once you move to Ireland or any other province - you need to have a port in that province to move your army back. Ireland does not have aport by default so you will need to build it as soon as you conquer it. A lot of other prvinces have their ports destroyed once you conquer it and so you need to rebuild it to get the troops back out.
Cheers
True Zortanius, except that the land-bridge goes from Wessex to Flanders and not to Normandy.
The rest is correct.
- A port in the province with the troops you want to move.
- Ships in every sea-zone you have to pass, with no enemy ships present in those zones (If you have the latest edition try pressing down v to see if all zones are green)
That's it.

Thank you,
Rufus, Zortanius & Magraev...
I think you are all, right, I am being blockaded by other vessels. I will proceed at once to destroy them, if I can, so that I can open up these water way routes.
Thanks for the http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-help.gif

Are you at war with other countries? and do they have their ships in your sea lanes?
No sense starting a war with another country over Ireland http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
If they're blocading him then he's already at war...
England should always dominate the seas. It's a real bummer to have to garrison the isles just because you can't keep enemy ships away.

The link is from Wessex to Flanders, not Normandy

yep, wessex-flanders, and you can move troops that way regardless of the sea zones status (i.e., even if you have enemy ships blockading the english channel). works both ways too.
not in medmod. that link got killed. it's more realisti that way. at least the French hve to tech up to ships before illing the Brits in a normal game

Also, don't forget to build a pretty large army when taking Ireland, even if it seems like overkill because there'll be no port when you conquer it and if there's a rebellion (which is why you need a large army- to maintain the loyalty or defeat an insurgence in the populace) and you're defeated, there'll be no place for your army to go, and they'll be ransomed back to you.
