I know I've played a game in the last year or two that let you turn off trees so that they wouldn't block your view etc. I don't think it was MTW, maybe AoE2? AoM?? Anyway, is there a way to turn them off? Just the display of them, not their effects on game play. It's particularly annoying how the cursor seems to pick up on the tree itself - and thinks you're anchoring a troop placement at the base of the tree - when you're trying to place troops in a forest. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif

I'm very sure you can't turn of Trees.
You can't turn them off-but I think it's like that to represent the difficulty of controlling an army in such terrain.
If you really, really wanted to kind of get rid of them, you might be able to edit a file somewhere to remove the tree graphic and replace it with a little stump or something to show you where the forest is, without them getting in your line of sight. I don't know how to do this or if it is possible, though

I think you can turn off trees... but a quicker solution is to raise your point of view and look down at a steeper angle.
Pressing alt will make it easier to position units in forests. Mind you: easier, not easy. I really don't understand why CA made it so difficult.

Thanks for the replies, everybody I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something... and I guess I wasn't. Yep Pap, I'm almost always looking down at the steepest angle anyway... and I sure wish they'd let us look straight down... why not? oh well. Forests and down angles are particularly troublesome right at the edge of the map, when you're trying to cram a defensive formation into a corner near forest, or whatever.
If anybody ever thinks of a way to turn them off, let us know
Cheers for the 4th, everyone http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/medievalcheers.gif
