Hi.I just joined a few days ago but i've been playing for years.
In NTW which i'm playing at the moment is there any way to mod or find a mod which allows you to train cavalry with guns.I love this mod and i think mounted riflemen would be a great addition to this mod.Is it possible? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-anxious.gif

I think it woudl be quite possible. just look up the projectile type in the unit file for say line infantry and then copy that into the line for cav.

that would be quite interesting. Since NTW cannons could move, you could even have mounted cannons

an army of twelve pounders, except mounted and at full cav speeds with the stats of lifeguard cav http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

eeeeeeek... that's cheating more than my 99 per stat people with 99 charge speed http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Thanks Katank...............i'll try that out.I was always afraid to alter weapon type as i thought(possibly in the wrong)that it was linked to too many different files, but i'll try it out later.
Any modding i have done merely entails range of weapons and cost of troops and/or unit size and requirements for training them.
Again thanks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

I was quite surprised when dragoons did not shoot from their horses, but i hope that they create a mounted missile unit, that actually shoots from its horse.

I may be wrong, but from what i know a mounted handgunner would have problems hitting anything at all or reloading his rifle...this is of course only from my limited history knowledge http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

it's true the accuracy should be horrible and that the effective range would be short since only small carbines are likely to be capable of being reloaded while mounted but it's possible to have mounted guns

Would it be possible to use the Dragoons in the mod like real life Dragoons e.g

Gallop to point A
Dismount
Take aim and fire certain amount of shots
Remount and gallop off to different location
Rinse and repeat

Basically i'm wondering would there be some way to enable the dismount/remount option that we have at the beginning of some battles in the actual battle and not just beforehand.
Any Modders tried this? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif

Mounting/Dismounting during battle is not possible, but you can make weapons not reloadable while moving. In my NTW game I have horse pistol units (4 shots, short range, medium speed reload). It makes the cavs much more interesting.

I would love for you to not only dismount/remount during battle but have different units do the same.

ie. unit A can give horses to unit B, thus changing from cav version of A and inf version of B to inf version of A and cav version of B.

Like that idea but i wouldnt give that ability to all troop types. It would also increase the micro-management aspect of the game no end....................now where did i leave those damn horses http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

so true. but think of the tactical flexibility

we must have some sort of penalty such as ultra vulnerable when dismounting/remounting or something or a time delay or else the game would be too crazy.

I think the ultra vulnerable idea would be the right way to got there e.g if caught during remount(who would be crazy enough to dismount in the middle of a melee...not i)you would suffer an auto-matic 40% casualty in that unit just for starters.I really think that if the serious modders out there can have a look at it there might be a way to do this remount/dismount idea during a battle but my talents do not extend that far .............YET.lol http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

yeah that stinks. I was stuck with dialup for a while when everyone else had high speed. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif

I wish they would have put it into 4-5 files, of like 9mb each, so everyone could have downloaded it. That way I can get 1-2 of the files a day... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

have you tried using a download manager? it helps to speed it up a bit and also helps with resuming interrupted downloads
