Please post any tales of your exploits in the Medieval Total war game. Most of the battles I will talk about are from my single player campaign, though some are from custom battles i created to test my strategic skills.
This is my first post, and i would like to register my deep love for this game. When Rome total war comes out, I can tell you now, I'll be one of the first to go into town and get my copy.
But enough ramblings from me, would anyone like to tell their tales of heroic deeds upon the field of battle?

I almost exclusively use the Italians, Sicilians, or in a custom battle, the Papacy, (I have viking invasion), though I have completed the campaign successfully as all the catholic and orthodox factions.

Currently i'm on a campaign as the polish, (in honour of our current pope) and am setting out with a crusade from Poland itself. The crusade at the moment has only a few decent crusader units, and a whole load of fanatics, though I am going to bulk it out with a few chivalric men at arms and some mercenary longbowmen.
Our target province is Antioch in the hands of the Infidel turks. I shall post again with any interesting tales from the war later. Wish me the Blessings of Mother Church

Well, in response to my last post, i can safely declare the crusade was an unmittigated... success I had some great fun slaying a whole bunch of turkish jannisaries, pluss a bunch of Almohad Urban Militia, (probably mercenaries as they appeared in Antioch They surrendered the province with little resistance
Well, I'll also tell you of my favoured defensive position, (given an ideal scenario) It involves having as ones first line of defence, some of the heaviest pikemen and/or spearmen you can get your hands on, then a core of missile units, with maybe the odd organ gun thrown in for good measure. Then a line of halberdiers, and other polearm based units. Behind that, any of your heavy cavalry. Flank the sides of these defensive lines with spare men at arms, a few foot knights and any light cavalry eg. Hobilars, (try to get an even balance between the two sides, or in a multiplayer game the enemy will probably just go for one side) then you can use the wings to pull out when the enemy have charged mindlessly, headlong into your pikes. Surrounding them in a curtain of men you can pull out from the sides, though not the light cavalry, instead save them for the purpose of pursuing the routing army off the field, and prevent the buggers rallying again and regrouping.
This method has always worked for me, the furthest the enemy ever got was the poleaxe/halberdier line. Idealy, they should never get further than the first line
P.S.
If anyone ever gets the chance to whoop some turkish/egyptian or almohad ass, please do, the papacy would be eternally grateful
