Intermittent Problem...

Sometimes when I try to make a group (by holding down control and clicking on units )ALL my units become highlighted as tho they are are a group. I can't see any cause for this. Anyone?

yep, i noticed similar things before which costed me almost some battles, didnt happend to me last week.
also my archers and muskets who get in a square formation automatically by using some keystrokes in a certain order .
and i hate it when i am doubleclicking move for my cav and they just march instead of quick marches.

This has happened to me, and I believe it occurs when I'm trying to select units for a group quickly and I accidentally click the same unit twice; quickly enough to be considered a double click. I can't test this right now, but I think that's what happens.

Units in a group are all automatically highlighted if you have one of them selected and Ctrl-click another. Maybe you've accidentally grouped your entire army with a careless "g" keystroke? I know it's happened to me...
