anyone builds them in SP ?

They are only half as cheap as YS to purchase, same maintenence costs, they rout almost inmediately and they have no real use because of that...

I only train them sometimes when I only have less then 200 koku and NEED an army esp. in a bridge province...

imo they suck too bad to buy...

I only train YS,SA in the beginning...

your opinion ?

I use ashigaru a lot at the beggining of the game. I always support them with ys and archers or no-dashi.
They are good at blocking cav(l always use them in hold formation-hold ground). They give you an edge as far as numbers and 2YA can beat 1YS :P
Also they are very useful when crossing bridges cause they take up all the arrows.

about he bridgecrossing : they just rout very fast demoralizing the other troops a bit...

and they cost too much in maintenence to keep them just cause they are better then one YS...

thats just my opinion though...

I hate to see an entire army of ashiguru rout just because 3 units lost some men happened to me twice today (checking out .conan. cheat http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif)

i see ashigaru as a tactic against them get 1 of them the rest run thats why under no circumstance do i ever build them!!!!

I never use them........
but keep 1 unit of them to protect ur guns?
and if u do use them try and keep them close or have other units with them to keep moral high.
Dont forget there only farmers and not trained warrior's.

ashigaru are sucky, unless you have lots and let the computer do it, you migth win then, i just sweep across japan with a ceaseless tide of samurai archers and yari samurai, simple but good tactic, also retreat to your home province and buff up your army, the enemy will be spread and then once the clans have whiped each other near exstinction you march out all big n powerful, but really ashigaru are katana fodder,hehe
